Wharton, aresident of Hurrison county, caused the arrest of T E. Danicls on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses. Daniels made a contract with Wharton to undergo a course of treatment and took his note for the puayment agreed upon. About the time the contract w taken Daniels aud his brother wers ested upon compiaint of a man in lowa City in connection with a froit tree deal. This wgs somehow rogarded by Wharton as evdence that his connection with the in- stitute in this city was merely a pretense, and when Daniels returned from Iowa ( after’ being honorably discharged he was arrested upon complaint of Wharton that he had obtained his note by fraudulent means, by claiming to represent an institution that did not exist. Drs. Bellingers came to the rescuc of their man and the case was dropped. Charles Meyers was on trial in the district court yesterday on the charge of stealing a horse and buggy from A, ¥. Clatterbuck, in Garner township. He had been at work for Clatterbuck on his farm for two months. One day when Mr. Clatterbuck had been away from home for several days Meyers hitehed up the horse and buggy and started to the city, saying he was sick and must see adoctor. He got of one of the sous $3.60, saying that he owed the doctor that amount, Ie did not return, and in- vestigation led to the discov that he had kon the rig to Omaha and th it, giving a bill of sale in duc form. Owing to his illness the case was continued until this morning when, if able to bear further cross-examination he will probably tuke the stand again.
