Mrs. Durham was endeavoring to kindle a fire in the cook stove, and as it did not burn satisfactorily, sno_poured on some oil from a can of kerosene. The fire was communicated by the stream tothe inside of the can, which exploded, throwing the burning oil all over the unfortunalo woman. Her screams brought her husband to her assistance, and he managed to extguish the flames, al- though his arms and hunds were fearfully burned. His injuries, while very painful, are not fatal. Mrs. Durham, however, was frightfully burned and cannot possibly recover. The city physician was summonéd and did’ what he could to relievo her awful sufferings. ~Her clothes were all burned from he , and in several pla the flesh was «lux\ll charred. 5he was burned from her head te her feev and suffered the most excruciating Bgony.
