On Monday morning, shortly after mid night, Captain Anderson of the merehants' police had his attention attracted to a young girl who was sitting on a bench in frout of Palmer's confectionary store on Main street. He approached her aud asked her why she was sitting there at that late hour. Her reply was that she was waiting for a gentle- man friend. Fupther inquiry elicited the fact that the girl had been robbed as well as wronged. She refused to give her name, but said she had been living with her grand. parents, an aged couple, in Glenwood. On Sunday morning came to this city, sho says, fin search of work, but shortly after her arrival shemet an ola friend in the person of a traveling man, whom she says is Frank Stemble, on the road for a Des Moines house. She bad been acquainted with him for a year or more. He invited she her to accompany him to Omabia and she con' sented. They returued ou the 10:80 woto On tho way ovar he suggested that it would be safer for her if she wouldcarry her pocket book. She complied with the request. They got off the motor on the corner of Main anc Broadway and started to walk down Main street, When in front of the Paimer place Lie suddenly asked to be excused for a mo- ment and told her to wait there until he re turned 1 patiently for nearl y two and ahalf hours, or until the officer found her, She says her pocketbook only con tained £, butit was all that she had and she de- nded upon it to_keep her until she conld find employment or fail and go home to Glen wood. Shawas taken to the Revere house and a night's lodging was pald for her. A Clarkon Har on street, mentien of which was made in Tae Bee yesterday. Several of the reighbors come forward now and accuse the boy Walter, the voungest of thetrio, and son of the widow, [Jwith being something of a kleptomanise, and recount numerous instances where they have suffered from his depredations, One man, a printer, living further up the same strect, charges the boy with thefts of money from his place. A short time agohis wife was uloncin the house and was taking an afternoon nap when she was awakened by @ noise in the adjoining room. On entering the room she was sur- prised to find the boy half w iuto the window. He had _cut the wire sereen away after the feshion of the true bur, and was just balancing his little body on the window sill when she caught him ‘nd him a spanking and dropped him on the outside. Another lady living on Benton street caught the child in the room of her son-in-law, who occupies the upper part of the house. Ho had gone through sundry trunks and draw- ers and had rifled the gentleman’s pockets and obtained quite & sum of money. The money was taken away from the child and he was sent outof the house iu a hurey No further action has been tiken in tha Clurk robbery case, butin view of these facts itis possible that some effective means m: be taken to prevent the youngerboy becom- ing a professiomal crook. The chief of polico thinks e can re. cover a large part of the coin stolen from Miss Clark, Several other pieces were recovered yesterday, and theamount that has been returned will reach about £10. The money has been recklessly scattered arouud, A picce of Chinese money was found near an outhouse in the r of a residence some dis- tanco away where it had been apparently thrown fiom along distance. None of tk more valuable coins and the gold nuggets have bee overed, Tho parents of the boys will dowhat they can toward making good the loss to Mrs, Clark and her danghter, and the ease will not be prosecuted, Th think, however, t Mus, Clark has put £oo higha value on stolen goods. None of the petrifactions, which cannot replaced, have been recovered, and the boys 50 far have refused to tell where they di posel of them.
