Carl Norton, a young man who lives at 811 South Eleventh street, was the victim of a serious aceident yesterday afternoon while at work with the steam shovel that the Union Pacific uses in loading the dirt trains down by Vinton and Twenty-seventh strects. The men haa reached a loose pluce in the bank; and when the shovel was ifted ana swinging over with its load to the car a large section of the bank caved in and fell upon Norton, burying himalmost out of sight. Theportion of the bank that fell in was not in largo cakes, but loose, and although it fell on his head first he suceceded in standing up under it and kecping his head clear, but a large section of 5oil struck his legs and almost buried him, When extricated itwas found that his left leg above the knee was broken but otherwise he was not seriously injured.
