ROISIUNG Buttons ana Ciubs, The new police forco was mustered into duty last evening, and at 7 o’clock the night force, increased in number to nine patrolmen and a captain, marched out to their beats. They were notall in uniform, and of course seemed a little awlkward, but there are sev- erai gooa men among the number, and it 18 predicted that the foundaticn of a very ef- fective force hias just been laid. The following rules have veen laid out for the government of the force: No patrolman will be retamed upon the force who uses intoxicating liquors to ex ces Smoking whilo lowed. ‘I'he use of profane and obscene language while on duty or at police station will be strictly prohibited, No putrolman will be allowed to speak in a disrespectful manner to or about auy mem ber of the force at auy time while a member of saud force. Patrolmen while on duty will not conversaticn with citizens unless in- rel to their duties, and then of short duration, No member of the force in making arrests will be allowed to use his club or any weapon except from avsolute necessity, or to display anger while 8o doing. Patrolmen while on duty will report to the station by telephone once every hour. No_patrolman will leave his beat until re- lieved without permission of the oficer 1n on duty will not be al charge, No member of the force will be allowed to enter theaters, houses of prostitution, saloons or other public places while on duty unless for the purpose of making arrests, or when ordered to do 80 by the ofticer in charge.
