THE CITY. Trank Tueas is in jail for the larceny of a watch. The pay roll of the police forco for the month of October smounted to 96,398.60, To-1ny American Florence. FOR' EMBLZZLEMENT. wife came to less than his young ON TRIAL Frank Angus, a Solicitor, Charged With a Seriius Crimo, Frank Angus, a soliciting agent for the Building and Loan association of Minneapo- lis, was tried in police court yesterday af noon on the charge of embezzlement. About August 15 Angus induced a man named Morris Stein to subscribe for some stock in the association. Stein had no United States money, his cash assets being coniiued to ninety rubles in Russian money, which his wife had brought over from the old country a short tine before, Angus agreed to credit Stem with £45 for his ninety and the money changed hands, Stein eiving a certificate of stock therefor. But he was not altogether satisfied with his investment, and in company with a friend went to the oflice of the local pr M. Patterson, and asked for his money. The latter said that the document was worthless, as Angus had made no return of the cash. ‘Then Angus was hunted up. He admitte that he had not paid in the mone, that it was all right; that Patterson and he bad a side deal together. But Stem didn’t care for side deals and demanded his money. Angus said he didn’t have 90 rubles about him, 50 he gave four notes representivg tho amount, Steinregarded them as worthless and threw them away, not knowing what they were, he having 1o knowledge of Euglish The arrest and trial next followed. Before any evidence was taken the latter moved that the defendant be dismissed on the ground that the act was committed outside the state, aud that therefore the court had no jurisdiction, The motion was overruled and the case went to trial. The taking of the testimony was not con- cluded until vearly 6 o'clock, and by mu- tual agreement argument was postponed until Saturday a clocks, when the defend ant’s counsel will endeavor to show that the scene of the shooting is outside the borders of Nebraska.
