The Street Raillway Companies’ De- sire for Military Road. This morning the board of public works will again consider the question of grant- ing right of way to the Omaha Street Railway company on Lowe avenue to Hamil- ton and thence along the Military road. This route, it seems, has been pre-empted by the motor people and a contest may be ex pected. Not long since the property ownes on Mil- itary avenue commenced to agitate the ques- tinn of inducing the Motor company to cxtend its service out the avenue. - The latter re- quired a bonus of eighty acres, the erecting of the poles and the tranfer of the rails, which were laid for the Benson motor. It is understood that the required amount of land for the bonus %as bean secured; that the full amount of yioney sought has not yet been raised, but the balince hus been guar- autecd with the hope of evontuelly being paid up by parties who are interested in t property along the line; and that the mots people have accepted the proporty and the conditions and _promised to extend their line as desired. They have nlso promised that the fare to and from the city shall not be more than 5 conts, When the street railway company asked for pormission to build on the avenue, a resi- dent on the latter showed the board of pub- lic works a letter declining & st to ex- tend their tracks in that direction, on tbe ground that the motor compauy had alveady got into the territory. This brought men to their they intonded, if granted tho rijeht to la their tracks, to do 80 on tho streets men- tioned at tho earliest possible moment. As intimated, the question will be agan opened at the meeting to-da The Omaha Street Railway company com- menced stringing the overhead wires for their electric motors yesterday. The line started at Hanscom Park and will extend north on Park avenue to Leavenworth street, east to Sixteenth, north to Cuming, west to Twenty- fourth and north on Twenty-fourth t to the Belt line railway, a distauce of five and one-hulf miles. Ten trail cars have been re- cerved und some 00 the motor cars have been shipped. The Sprague Electric company is under contract to furnish the motors by the 15th, of Sevtemb: with a forfeit of $100 per day for each day after that time. The system to be used differs from the one y the motor railway company. The trolley wire is fed by a heavy wire strung on the poles, with feed wires connecting tho two at intervals of about a block. The company expects to have this line in operation about the lust of this month, and if ing proves sutisfactory the Six-eenth ghteenth street line will bé pushed \lnm;ml. and efforts made to get it in operation by fal ‘Thie cars which have been received for the fourth street, line are handsomely p: am colored body. ‘The seats are upholstered and all the appointments are elegant.
