JUGGLING FOR GOODMAN. ‘fhe County Drug Scheme to Perpetu- ate the O1d beal. The county commissioners held a short session yesterday, with members Mount, O'Keeffe, Corrigan and Anderson present. They were, it was understood, going to settle the drug store matter, but_either foared to take final action or wished more delay for log-rolling purposes. To avoid the suspicion of juggling, the bids were referred to Dr. Keogh and Frank Zimmer for examivation. Chairman Mount explained that they deemed this course advisable in order to as- certain who had put in the lowest bid on such compounds as are used most in pre- scriptions. He had an idea that some of the dealers were trying to work n blind on the board by putting articles not greatly ‘n demand a v figure and others, quinine, for ins up hig “But that," another entlemen,” is not the real object of this delay. 1t is my opinion that, unless the drug store is knocked out entirely, there 1s a schemo on foot to 3oodman the contract. They have dis- , doubtless. that th are lower bids in than lus and want to give him auother chance. Just keep your eyes open and watch the manipulations Adter disposing of this matter, a coutract was let for 50.000 bricks at $11 per 1,000, to be used in building a sewer 100 feet long across the military road at Devil’s Roost, six miles out, Geor Saulter was the lucky bidder. e PATRONAGE IN REFUS Mr. Goidsmith Says Scavey Favors a Garbage Insp: 1dsmith claims that the " statements in Monday's Beg concerning Chief Seavey, using his position 10 bring patronage to (Goldsmith, is not true, the condition of affuirs being just the r verse. —Heo says that Seavey and his oficers are doing all they can to down him, and the patronuge that according to the ordinance should go to him as garbage sctor, and caunot £o to anybody else, to private men, 4moug wh a recently d em]llo)u of (mllhm\lh The L that Chief Seavey did, up to a recent date, owe him $25, but he has sold the note tor what he could get onit.
