In addition to being the founder of the ordor, his lecture is said by those who know to be w beautiful und instructive one, and to tho Knights this is an op- portunity of a lifetime. The notification required them to show why the properly in which they are interested should not be condemned at the appraisement, of the board appointed for that purpose by Judge Dundy. Tmis notification was made both by letter und advertisoments in the newspapers. There are in the neighborhood of fifty people interested in the property. Of these forty-seven or forty-cight have acknowledged service, howaver, have failed to respond. are Mrs.' Cloveland, wife of the ex- lent; Ben Kolsom, her cousin, who is now in Burope, aud Niies R. Folsom, It is surmised that these have received their noti- fication, but have concluded to let the matter g0 by default. There is wothing left _now for the apprais- ers to do except to meet, condemn the pro- perty at an equitable rate, and forward a showing of the samo to Washington. 1In re- turn, cnecks for the several appraisemonts will ‘b forwarded to the city and then dostributed wmong the owners of the property. It the appraisement should prove unsatisfactory to any of the property owners, they must have recourse to the courts for settlement. ‘The appraisers are P. . Birkhauser, An- drew Rosewater, J. E. Riley, Richard Ber- Houry Estabrook and W. F. Bechol. Of Messrs. Bechel, Estabrook and Birk- hauser are out of town. The appraisers met at 10 o'clock, and adjourned until the same time to-day. He Disclaims All Knowledge of the County Hole Job. George W. Timme, ex-county commis- sioner, on whora some members of the pres- ent board would like, it is said, to saddle the responsibility for the £6,000 excavation job, was seen by a Bee man and wus quite furi- ous over the use of his name in that connec- tion. Said he: *'If there ever was any crooked- ness in any of the hospital work, before my term of ‘office expired, 1 never knew any- thing about it. I always understood, how- ever, that the contract for grading was let at 25 cents a yard. 1 never saw the contract after it was first drawn up and ar- gued upon. If anybody has becn in collusion with the contractor and.ordered vouchers paid, 1n excess of the county sur- veyor's estinflites, they must not attempt to cast reflections on me because I know nothing about it.” Mr. Timmie also declared that O’Keeffe and Mount had charge of the hospital work and looked after it. Because of the fact that he lives twelve miles out n the country, very little attention was given by him to such work as they who were always on the ground could attend to it.
