Among the 3,000 harvest excursionists who came in on the various eastern lines yesterday morning were John Prouty and wife, who live on a farm near Elgin, 11 Johin thought when he left home early Tues- day morning that he was about the smart- est man in the world, and that his wife was one of the most innocent women that ever inhaled the utmosphere of life. To-duy he curses hunself as beiug one of the huskiest suckers that ever wore cow- hides and regards the partner of his joys and sorrows as being one of the finest specimens of feminine humanity lives. John became the vietim of a man, and but for Mrs. Prouty’s sagacity, the two would now be in Omaba stranded with nothing but a baske of hard boiled eggs and a section of cold ham between them and the cold, cruel world. After reviewing briefly the case and read ing extracts from Superintendent Heyward's aftidavit, his honor handed down the foilow: ing: “A gas company is organized to supply to the public one of the necessities of the age in cities and large towns. Its use of the streets is cssential to that end; and it is granted privileges therein by reason of its quasi pub- lic tunctions and duties.
