While Mrs. Steve Hanigan, an old lady living on the corner of Eighth street and Capital avenue, was attend- ing church early yesterday morning, a sneakthief cut a hole through the wire screen of the back door, and making his way upstairs carried off Mrs. Hanigan’s i)ock(‘lluml(, containing $51.15. {anigan is an old lady about sixty years of age, and this money represented the savingsof years. John Boehm, a saloonkeeper at Eleventh and Pierce, was tried in the police court yesterday, before a jury, on the charge of selling malt, vinous and and spirituous liquors on Sunday. The testimony showed that beer was sold on the premises on Sunday, but did not show that it was sold in the ealoon, or that it was with the knowledge or con- sent of Mr. Boehm. The prosecution did not show that vinous or spirituous liquors were sold at that time. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty, and the defendant was discharged. A, The Board of Health, At the meeting of the board of health yesterday afternoon the city physician re- ported the smallpox patient south of Leaven- worth street as doing well. The house is quarantined snd an offioar stationed there during the day, but the pbysician reported that at night rag-pickers approached tho house, and even went inside, and he sug- gosted that an officer be statione | there at night also. The suggestion was acted on, and another officer will be detailed for that duty. The ohild has passed the critical stage. None of the other occupants of the house have contracted the disease. A complaint about the offensive condition .of several vaults at the coruer of Eighteenth and Webster, owned by D. Thomas, was re- ferred to the city physician for examination and report. The report of the plumbing inspector was presented, showing ten plaus submitted for inspection at an aggrogate cost of $4,107. The board then went into executive ses- s10n with a plan of the city and Cut-off lake before them to consider the report of the city physician on the location of a pest house. Second-Class Tickets Via the Northern Pacific R. R., allow the holders the privilege of stopping over at Spokane Falls, Wash., and all points west of there. The Northern Pacific is the only line traversing and north to south.
