H.* at | WILL ARREST THE DRUGGISTS. If They Don't Report By Angust 1 the Amount of Liquor Sold. The license 1nspector is having no end of trouble in securing from the druggists of the city the report of the amount of liquor sold Dby them for the six months of the present year ending June 80. Less than half of the druggiats, wholesale and retail, in the city have mado any report atall, and many of those substituted are not properly attested and are consoquontly worth Druggists fafl ing to comply with the law requiring them to make such reports are liable to fiue of not less than §30 nor more then $100. As nearly a month has passed since the time fixed for submitting theso reports, tho ity license inspector threatens to take legal action against all druggists whose reports aro not sent in by the 1st of August. The section of the statute rogulating this matter is as follows “Any druggist to whom & permit may be granted as contemplated n sections 25 and 36 of this act_shall keep in book provided by him for that purposo, & register of all liquors sold or given wway by him for that purpose, a_rogistor of all liquors sold or given uway by him, which registor shall show the dates, kind, quantity, for what purpose, and to whom such _liquor was sold o given away, whioh book shall be ut all times open to the inspection of the public. All druggists to_whom such permit may be granted shall, on the first Monday of Janu- ary and July 'of each year, file in the offico of the clerk of the authoritios granting such permits—a report of all entries made in said register, as contemplated in this section, since his [st report, which report shall be subscribed and sworn .to as correct by said druggist, and that ho has not sold or given away, either by himself, clerk or agent, any liquor other than as stated in said report. Any druggist failing to comply with the provisions of this section shall bo deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon convic- tion ihereof, for each and every offense shall be fined in any sum not less than twenty (£20.00) nor more than one hundred (§100.00) dollars, and be imprisoned in_the county jail not less than ten days nor more than thirty, in the discrotion of the court.” e hatan} Dr, Benjamin Dillurd, druggist, at Aurora, Mo, says: 1 sell a great quantity of S. 8. County Clerk Roche is having a *“wheel of fortune” made which will be used in the newly ‘adopted plan for drawing district court jurors. This change promises to bring about something of & revolution. The com- missioners must prepare a list ‘of names, taking onetenth of all the voters in each ward and township, as based on the Jast gencral election returns, give that list to the county clerk, who must then write each name' on a soparate slip of paper, and put them all in the “Wheel of fortune.” This wheel is to be made of glass so that th_('rc can be no possible show of going it blind about the business. After that has been done, a time for the drawing to come off will be announced, when the county clerk and the clerk of the district court will mako their appearance and_do the drawing. Owmana, July 84.—To the Editor of Tne Bee: Please grant the residents of#'wenty- ninth street south of Leavenworth space in your paper to enquire where the street cross walks have gone to. When the contractor commenced grading the strcet the cross- walks were taken up and taken away by some one about two months ago, and singe that time no cross walks have been put down, Complaint has been made to the street commissioner, but no attention has been given to it, and'we feel as if we should bo given good cross-walks on all cross streets south of Leuvenworth on Twenty-ninth street. Pinkerton, one of the famous Chicago detectives, was in Owmaha yestor- day, ~ though , mot on _ scnsational business. There has been this season a large num- ber of washouts in the streets subsequent to rains, ana repairing these has cost the city thousands of dollars. A short time ago Major Balcombe, chair- man of the board of public works, declared that these washouts were due solely to tho habit of the council in ordering a street graded and paved the same season, but not- withstanding the warning given by the major, and the example laid before them by the nu- merous washouts this spring, the council has followed the same course in the matter as in former years: The following streets were ordered graded by the council in May and June and ordered paved a month later: Lake from Eighteenth to Twenticth, Burt “from Ninetconth to Twenty-sixth, Chicazo from Twentieth to Twenty-second, Twenty-first from Daven- port to California, Lake from Twenticth to ‘Twenty-fourth. John McElhatton was fined in police court the other day for an assault upon Mrs. Driffkon. A warrant has beeg issued for Raasch’s arrest on the charge of perjury.
