“THE SPECULATIVE YARKETS. Cash Wheat Bules Firm at all Points at Bottor Figures. NARROW FLUCTUATIONS IN CORN The Opening In Provisions Made at Stronger and Higher Pricos— Native Cattle Business Active —General Qoutations. CRICAGO PRODUCE MARKETS, Cricaco, July 10.— Tux Bre,]—Wheat was steady and dull to-day. New York had a lot of bear news to communicate, including the in formation that there wasno chance for ex- port business, Nevertheless, the price of cash wheat, not only at the seaboard but at all interior points, held firm, and better fig- ures than were obtainable yesterday at the close were asked to-day. In this market an mctive milling demand for small lots of old Whoat to mix with now was reported and a good trade in a retail way for that account was done. Early trading m December wheat was on a basis of igc. The price went to 7037¢, back to 793¢, up again 1079 off to T3¢c, up to 19%c, off to 9%e, wnd fup 10 795 @79%{c, at which price the market rested at 1:15 p. m. September opencd at 780, ranged at 7TiKe low, 77%c high, and closed at August closed ut 78}g@isige. The range on July, in which there was very Light business passing, was 803{@slc, and the close was 80%c. As compared with yesterday, the closing range shows an average improvi ment of about %c. The market was at no time bulgy or excited. Local speculative sen{ ment was bearish, and the market scemed to have an undertone of weakness, yet comparison shows an advance over ye torany, though not over yestorduy's average price. There was the usual good demand for of- ferings in the cash corn market, and there ‘was 1he regular apathy and inaction amoug speculators, . The trading pit was all but erpty during the greater part of the scssion and the narrow fluctuations bear witne to a lack of Interest. Indications, until within @ few minutes of the close, ull favored u slight reduction in price from the prices ruling at the close of the previous day, but the firmness of the wheat market imparted moro confidence to operators and a rally took placo just as the umrket closed, which left quotations about k¢ higher for this and next month’s deliveries than they were at the sponding time yesterday. July closed af and Scptember at 357¢e. Oats shared in the general quietude and were nearly ut a standstill. Few operators were present und outside tradng orders were inconscquential, with the price range limited to about k. ' Septembor sold chietly at 22 und May uround 25%c, while cash lots were steady at 221{c for No. 2 to o to store, and July sold sparingly at 22%c. There was some inquiry for new No. 2 whito oats, though but few Were offered. In provisions the opening was quite strong. Unexpectedly smull receipts of hogs, accom- panied by an advan th 1e, encouraged traders to look for a better marlket. The in- ftiutory transactions all around were made at prices a little ubove tho level of yester- day's _closings, but the mprovement wit- nessed was of short duration. Theold bear crow} promptly resumed their hamwering operations in pork, and by forciug a break of 250.in that article carried ever. the list down. Later there was some , but the final quotations showed a declin the day amounting to 7o in pori, 5 in lard and 2i¢c in short ribs. Lard closed at the vot- tom figures touched, short ribs 2lgc than the sume und pork 12igc higher, ing was spasmodic and of rather light volume, Leading packers madeno move- ment of any siguificance. For casn doliv 16-1b green hams sold at Jor and lard was quoted at 100012} under September. Cured meats sold for shipment wi on private terms. Speculative int anin confined mainly to September, which sold from §11.80 early down to $1102}¢ for pork, from §5.313 down to $6.30 for lard, and from £5.65 down to $5.67}¢ for short ribs. Pork, for the same month, closed at $11.15, Jard av $6.80 und short vibs at §.40. Next winter's deliveries were quict. CHICAGO LIVE STOCKR MARKET. The higher opening appeared to be the result of the rebound before the close on Thursday and higher figures from London, There was less thau the usual amount of influential news ana values fluctuated widely without heavy transactions. The opening prices were from % to % per cent above the closing figures of lust evening, but Missour: Pacific and New England were noted exceptions, being 3i@)X per cent lower respectively: fSugar trust was also down 1 per cent at 1053, 'The high prices of the opening could not be maintained, however, and & general decline took place, though in wost stocks the losses were smull sud ummportant.
