The contract and specifications proviae that the strects shall first be sprinkied by a atering cart, when necessary to lay tho ust, and that the sprinkler shall be followed 8t a short distance by the sweoper; und, further, that the sweeping must be done be tween the hours of 10 p. m and b4, m. —— Taxidermist,catal’g’e,816 N 16th,Omuha THE ENGINEERS, No Obange In Connection With the Wage Difficulty. The following members will repre- sent Omaha and will contest for the cham- pionship of the United States in athletic performances ! Philip Andres, C. Buecnner, Gus Doyle, G. Blaltert, Fred Rath, Herman Kunde, Henry King, Bd Hefley, John Nehrbas, H. Augustadt, Carl Stangel and William F. Stecker. 'Among the other persons who will take in the trip are Judge Kroeger, Carl Schindler, William Hardy, C. Demmy, H. Ledell, William H. Ruseell, Murph. GRUBLLA, of Vicksburg, Miss., says that his system was poisoned with nico- tine from the "excessive use of tobacco in smoking cigarcttes, He could not sleep, his appetite was gons, and ho was ina bad fix generally, He took S. S, S., which drove out the poison and made a new man of him, Opera House lmprovements. Two years ago the construction of the main sewer in tho rear of Boyd’s opera houso caused the north wall to settle slightly, and the result was that a crack ap- peared in one of the chimneys. Although not considered serious, 1t was thought best to make it perfectly secure. Since Mr. James E. Boyd’s return from Chicago, Mon- day, he has been in consultation with Build- ing lnspector Whitlock and the building committee, the result of which was that he has employed Mr. Shane to fix the wall in accordance with their suggestions, making it perfectly safe beyond any controversy. The building cdmmittee, furthermore, sug- gested that an iron stairway four feer wide be constructed on the Fifteenth street side of the building from the first balcony, or from the gallery, if possible without serious injury to the stores beneath. There is an excellent fire escape now on the west wall, and the construction of the stairway wouid necessitate the removal of it. Work- men will commence operations immediately. Oxans, June 20.—To the Editor of Tug Ber: The published figures of the late as- sessment have caused a great deal of com- ment among property holders of the Second ward, who find their assessment increased $173,412. The improvements in this part of the city have been =0 slight during the past year as to be scarcely noticeable, while oilitr sections of Omaha which enjoy a decreased assessment have been improved to the ex- tent of many thousands of dollars. The county commissioners are now sittiug as a board of equalization, and number of prop- erty holaers have joined in a call for a meet- iug at Kasper’s hall on Saturday night for the purpose of getting at the facts and en- tering . protest. Itis proposed to havea copy of the assessment records there, and go over the mutter carefelly. All »Second ward property owuers can learn how they ave rated for taxes by attending the meet- ng. ND WaRD, There are few traveling men who represent houses in this city or make Omaha their headquarters who are not acquainted with Mr.J. W. Judkins, proprietor of the Judkins house, Fuller- ton, Nebraska. Mr. Judkins says: *‘I have used Chamberlain’s colic cholera and dierrheea remedy for several years in severe cases of dysentery and ‘diar- rheea and always keep a bottle in the house for use of guests.
