THE SPECULATIVE MARKETS. Agaln Comes the Report of Wheat Heavy and Lower. BIG OPERATORS SELL LARGELY Corn Closed Steady in Chicago Yester- Aay—Pork Hammerad Down Ap- preciabiy—Cattle in Large Supply and Lower. CRICAGO PRODUCE MARKE . Cmoaco, June 8.—[Special Telegram to Tur Bee, he wheat market was heavy and lower to-day, and at a small decline from Saturday's closing range. There was an immense liguidation. The shorts seemed willing to pay around 75¢c for wheat to fill their July contracts and the longs acted as though they were only too glad to get 75¢ for their wheat. This mado business lively, and dealings were on a very large scale within a narrow fluctuation. There was more or less gossip about the new support from Wall street, and the buying of long wheat by Hutchinson, Linn and others, but there was very little tangible evidence to support the hopeful theory. ‘The whole ap- pearance of the market satisfied the most careful observer that the great feature of the market was the evening up of trades by both the longs and the shorts, July started in at ¢, and there were sales near the opening at b4e. From that point the mar- ket worked down to T4{c, and up again to 7b14c, but the price was within one-eighth of 760 most of the session and by far the largest proportion of trading was done within limits of i{c. Towards the close the market har- dened and the scalping element and the local crowd generally seemed to look for a reac- tion towards better vrices. An increased specnlative Inquiry gave quite a firm appear- ance to things and there was heavy trading at the improvement. July closed at 5l5¢, or very nearly where it did Saturday after what was scemingly the most hopelessly bearish day of the season. September ranged 3 @r4e, and closed at 74c. December, the second most popular delivery, opencd at 7514c, ranged at TBL{@T53c, and closed at 753¢ @j! 7kl’ June sold down to i53gc and left off at 75%c. The tone at the close” was that of firmuoss. The receipts of corn were about as Satu day’'s estimates foreshadowed. Those fig- ures were considered favorable to the bull side of the market. The increase in the vis- ible supply of 558,000 bushels, being less than was generally looked for, alsoleaned in favor of holders. Foreign markets were steady. The export clearance from the Atlantic ports were liberal, und the shipping demand here was good, On the other hand the weather was clearing up and the temperature rising, and outside dowestic markets were showing wore inclination to follow the aeclines than the advances here. The stock in store at Chicago is now 4,111,174 busbels, and the total visible supply 11,603,264 bushels. There was a want of animation 'in the business und the speculative sentiment was affected some- what by the fluctuations in wheat, which, showing some steadiness at the close, helped 10 uphold the courage of the buyers of corn and the market left off fairly firm at Satur- day’s quovations. Outs were quict, and about steady. Little as done in changes, and July and Septem- per were favorites. Next month sold up about Xc, to 22'gc, and September was {@dc promium. A fow cars of No. 2 were H0ld, to go {o Atore, at : In' provisions the opening of the new week failed to occasion any great change. Gener- nlly speaking, the underlying fecling was possibly a little stronger than of late, but there was certainly no improvement in busi- ness, Professionals, again, practically mon- opolized the trading, and their operations ap- poared to-have no special significance. They ‘were, in fact, more inclined to scalp than to talke sides, and the market passed through the day in & compuratively uninteresting manner. Hogs were received in fair numbers, and the outlook was considered encouraging for the receipts of this week, approximating last week’s arrivals. In the product the fluctua- tions were confined to amoderate rang Just before the adjournment the bears ham- mored pork in an unexpected manner, and that article was made to close 10c to l2~‘u under Saturday’s last price. Short ribs, however, closed unchanged, and lard un- changeed to 223¢ higher. CHIICAGO LIVE STOUR MARKET. Cimtoago, June 8.—[Special Telegram to Tup Bee]—Catrie.—The market opened with a “big” subply, 11,000 natives and 4,000 “Poxans. One or two dresseld beef firms that wanted cattle to commence the day's killing with started out paying about last weok's tigures for a limited number of handy, smooth steers, but later secured concessions of 6o and 10c. Eastern shippers and ex- porters from the beginmng demanded and obtained concessions of 10c on the best of the qualitics and 10c and 15¢ on roughish grades, but they evidently wanted cattle, for at 8 o'clock the supply had been about sold. Tho big run of Texans sent prices down a strong 10¢, making values 15¢ lower than the nuddle of last weels, or 80c lower than ten_or fifteen days ago. The decline in Texans and the big supply sont prices down on common natives nd canning stock, but prime cows and hoifers sold steady. ‘Nothing of note is going n in the stocker and foeder line.
