Injunction cases witnout end are to be brought up, and it 18 stated that several parties who are selling liquor in violation of injunctions will soon find themselves in the same fix as Bartel, and will be sent to the county cylinder to rest and recuperate. Mrs. Hawkie's cattle were disposed to trespass on the Jor- genson acres, groatly to the displeasure of that gentleman, and he concluded that he could not stand it. Whea the cattle ap- peared on the 231 inst.. he shut them up 1n nis corral, and notiled Mrs. Hawkie that her stock was held by him for damazes. She shortly wont aftor them, and was re- fused possession until the owner paid $1.50 per head for each of the twelve shut up. She tnereupon grew wrathy, and_proceeded to larrup Jorgenson with a stick she had brought to use on the cattle, and when it was broken sho picked up a board and_con- tinued her innocent amusement until she was tired. Certain parties, whose politics and position happen to be such as to render their support import ant, have invariably been let off with a ridic- ulously smull assessment, “Of course, this necessitated a correspond- ing increase of the assessment of a number of less favored individuals. Such a state of affairs naturally made an unpleasantness and gave rise to the gravest charges, but it all amounted to very little in the end. Now then, as to what has been done to work against the interests of the city. Assess- ments have been cut here and there, favol ing this or that corporation or wealthy indi- vidual, just to keep them good natured, al- though they are not in a position to mater- ially injure the city, even if so disposed. However, one corporation, which really holds the key to the \\Imlu situation has been I refer to the hmnu Pacific Railway com- pany. Their assessments have been in- creased far in excess of their comparative increase in the ussessment of other com- panies, yet the ¢ expects the Union Pacific 10 go ahead with great improvements here. Anyone who understands the situation aware that the Union Pacitic holds the ] of the union depot scheme in 1ts own hands, for if that company says go on and build lt, the structure will be erected, whereas, if it refases to o into the project, the plan will fall flat, as che other roads mnst go to the Union Pacific and will not y for their share of the proposed new depot, and at the same time continue to pay their present heavy rentals to the Union Pacific at the transfe In view of these facts, 1t seems to me that is policy to do as much for the Union Pacific as for the other roads. Iam greatly interested in Council Bluffs real estate, and I want to see a new union depot nearer the center of the city, and I also hope to see another electric motor betw: this eity and Omaha via the Union Paci bridge. I think that the council and board of cqualization ought to take cognizance of such things while hold- ing their lengthy wrangles over assess- ments.” A Cottaze Buy a lot at Manawa and Special prices to those who will cottages. .
