BPENOERIAN PE Mr. Mount Says he will not Fuarnish Them to Ulerks, it is understood that Commissioner Ander- son, will renew his fight on County Clerk Roche to-day. Auditor Evans will have completed the report of his investigation into stationery accounts, which will be presented to the board, This report is said to be about a yard long and among other things will show that writing pens have been purchased at £1.50 per box, when the contract awarded on bids fixes the maxi- mum orice at 75 cents per box. Mr. Roche, however, explaining the matter says the contract oalls for the Falcon and Estabrook style of pens, which Treasurer Bolln and Clerk Moores re- fuseto use. They order the Spencerian, and won't have any other kind, and the clerk must therefore get them what they want. The Spen cerian costs §1.50 a box. Commissioner O'Keeffe says he wouid like to know why the finance committee sits around wearing out chairs, and Mr. Mount is determined that the judges, clerks and every body else shall use the stationary fur nished them by the board. The hospital controversy is again engross- ing attention, and the commissioners have renewed their waill of against Architect Myers, They say iie failed to indorse any of the changes recommended by Superintendent Coots, but sent back some of his own, return- ng the Coots report unsigned, He ordered tho steam pipes placed in a trenoh, which, the board claim, is entirely impracticable. They have telegraphed hiin that the pipes must be hung with fall enough to allow the water to run off. ‘I'he boilers will also bave to be lowered about seven feet, which will necessitate underpinning the walls in the boiler room. MAIL TO THE BLUKES, woo 1t May Yet he Oarried Upon the Mo- tor Cars. The Omaha and Council motor company is anxious now to carry the mails between the two citics. A provosition for the privilege has, it is understood, been made to the post- ofice authoritics here, and will be lmd be- foro the postmaster-general at Washington. Locally, the idea seoms to mect with favor- able consideration. The mails pussing bo- tween the towns, could then, it is claimed. be delivered every hour, if necessary, whereas, by the présent ar x carting back and forth be and depot o letter sent from anOmaha m chant to oue in the Bluffs car reach its designation in loss than three hours. Furthermore, a change of this kind wowd do away with wagons, the line pass- tug the postofiice in each place. The change would virtually establish a special delivery service botween the two cities and thus greatly facilitate the trans- action of important business. lu-some of the large enstern cities, notably Baitimore, the mails are carried on street cars from sub- offices to the main office. T. Granger Stev AR B IS E., ordinary physician to H. M., the queen, in mmm.d. professor of pri tice of physic in the University of Idin- burgh, writes: ‘“The arteries are sclerosed and atheromatous in the ad- vanced stages of the inflammatory and in the cirrhotic, but not so small in the waxy disease. In that affection the smail vessels in bther parts are fre- quently the seatof waxy degeneration.” I'rom this it will be seen that in the three forms of kidney discase, classed as Bright's disease, the arteries suffer changes, and it matters not whether they undergo sclerotic, atheromatous or waxy change, they are so weukened as to endanger rupture under any in- creased pressure. This explains the frequency of apoplexy and pavalysis, and as clearly demonstrates that tho only preventive of these disastrous ruptures of the blood vessels is the timely use of Warner’s Safe Cure tokeep the kidneys in a healthy condition. Ought to Don a Tie. Brad Slaughter never wears a necl His stle, therefore, is not. appreciated by the dudes of Judge Dundy’s court, and, ac- cordingly, a petition was filed with his honor praying for an order compeiling the marshal totop off his expansive white shirt with some kind of neck-wear. The signers of the petition recommended all styles, shades, cuts and colors of the “Four-in-Hand” pattern, and afirm that they will not be content until the gentleman with a sanguinary name dresses up. They go so far as to threaten upited opposition 1o his becoming qualified as United States marshal unless he complies with theiy demand. Judge Dundy refused to take the matter under serious advisement. Hascall's Poor House, Councilman Isaac Hascall, who purchased the county poor house and a portion of. the addition upon which it stands, at auction some time ago, held a conference yestcrday with the county commissioners, and agreed to allow the county to remain in possession 0s the property until Jauuary 1, 1860, for the consideration of §1 and the buildg. When he purchased the proporty the terms of saie of the contract were that possession should have been given Muy 7 last. The commi sioners at the time believed that the now county hospital would have been completed by that date, and that the county could give up the poor fiouse, but as tho complotion of ew hospital hias beeu delayed, matters a3 hot progress as anticipated. Mr. Huscall's proposition me t with fayor- able consideration, and a contract will be entered into. Mr.' Hascall also agreed to as- sume all the liabilities which the county may 1mcur by reason of its failure to remove the poor house, R POWDER | Absolutely Pure. Thiis powder nover varies.
