Hood’s Enranpurn]lu is jusv what is needed. It is, in & peculiar sonse, the ideal spring medicine, Tt purlln,s vitalizes, and enriches the blood, makes the head clear, creates an appetite, overcomes that tired feeling, and imparts new strength and vigor to the whole body, Ryan & Co. Are Satisfied. With reference to the possibility of the firm of Ryan & Co, losing their pavement contract, because of the counection of the same with the county hos- pital trouble, & member of the company said yesterday : *“The statement to the effect that we are are not responsivle, and for that reason the city and property holders might suffer; is ridicu lous. All the conditions asked of us has been complied with, as will also others that which the contract and specifications pre- r\\rad by the city engineer and board of pub- ic works impose upon us. We are fully aware that all defeated bidders have fricnds in power and on the outside, and we know also that many talks have been held in some of their interests. 1 will say that we are ready to go on and complete this contract, as we bave completed many others, without damage o the city or its residents, and by 80 doing, make a reasonable profit’ for our- selves and save the taxpayers the larger prom At present wanted by others.” " Pears' soap is the most elegant toilet sdjunct. o RS A OMAHA DAILY LHANLE Fl)ll I"lJl“u MIiLK. - There is Now a Prospeot of Inspection by Chemical Analysis. Tho doctor 1s also, with the assistance of Mayor Broatch, preparing a milk ordinance, under which there will be a radical change in the method of inspecting milk. The doctor is of the opinion that the inspectors now in office are rot competent to make o proper analysis of that product, and that it will require a thorough chiemist to do so. Miller’s Recollections of the Late General Harney. Speaking about General Harney, whose death was recorded in the telegraph columns ofdTne B sterday, Dr. Miller, who knew the deceased well, said : “You ask me about General Harney, and when he came to Omaha during his Indian campaigns in this part of the west. The truth is that General Harney did not come to Omaha at all at that time. He was in Omaha in later years, when I had the pleasure of remewing _ acquaintance with him, spvending a day with us. His moyement ou the Indians west of us who had killed some mail carriers i a pre- vious vear in the mountains began in 1855 and not in 1854. He marched from Fort Leavenworth to the west and_encountered the Indians at Ash Hollow. The battle in which Lie surrounded the camp and attacked the people under Little Thunder was a suc- cessful one. General Drum, who will be with us to-morrow was in that battle, and described it to me personally. I first met General Harney, who made his way to the Missouri river from the west overland, at Big Sioux camp, as it was alled, north of Sioux City, in 1855, It was the council which he had had with the ns at Fort Pierre where a treaty of co was made. He was at a celebrated military court at Sioux camp, 48 _prosecuting witness against Major Howe, who was there tried for var. 10us offenses upon charges brought by Gen- eral Harney himself. be interesting to note that the hero of Camp Jackson, who had differences with Harney at the outbreak of the war, in St. Louis, was judge advocate ot that court where I first met him. And the celebrated neral Joseph I, Johnson, of the confede: ate army, who was then a Lieutenant colonel in the regular army, was also a member of that court. General Pleasonton, famous since as a cavalry commander, Was then a young and promising officer and adjutant to General Harney.” No Name. My little boy, five years old, was attacked with a disease for which the doctors had no name. The nails came off to the mddle joint, For three yoars under various kinds of treatment from many physicians, he suf- fered terribly and got no better. I began the use of Swift's Specific a short time ago, and he is getting well, Jony DEmL, Peru, Ind. I, LICENSE FOREIGN TEAMSTERS. The Council Kequested to Homée Cartwear, “There are camped and otherways quar- tered around Omaha,” said a councilman, “not less than 1,000 transient teamsters, who are waiting for the opening of grading in order to take thousunds of dollars out of this city to sowme other town, They are squatter own no personal or real property in the upon which they may be taxed. " As a cons quence they are inno ¢ o benefit to the town, while in depriving resident teamsters of the grading work which properly belong to them, they do a positive injury to the com- munity at lurge, “‘Now this should be stopped. Home team- sters and coutractors, all things considered, should have preference in public works, These outside teamsters should be compelled to pay a license, Foreign carryall men, dar- iug fair and circus time, must pay certain rates for the privilege of carrying passen- gers, and why should not these teamsters do the same! The council ought to pass an or- dinance to this effect noxt Tuesday night.” Protect POWDER Absolutely Pure. This powda: never varies. A marvel of nuru strength and wholesomeness. .
