Richard Rowley, an engineer on the Union Pacific, who lives at 1309 North Twentieth, narrowly escaped death by powsoning from canned tomatoes. The other members of the family noticed a peculiar and disagreeable taste in the tomatoes and refrained from eat- ing them, but Mr. Rowley ate very heartily of ttem. In about two hours after the meal he was taken violently sick, and Dr, Fiegen- baum wus summoned, who discovered that the symptoms were those due to poisoning from stannic chloride, this deadly chemn combination being sed by the use of mur part of fatic acid in the solder. One of the Victims Lately a Visitor in Omaha. One of the unfortunate victims of the frightful railway accident at Hamilton, Can- ada, last Sunday, was Mr. Rufus A. Peverly of Portsmouth, N. H., a cousin of Mrs, George H. Leslic of this city. Mr. Peverly had been spending the winter in California with other relatives of Mrs. Leslie, and the party stopped over here on their way east, Mr. Peverly remaining the Ruest of Mrs. Leslie for two weeks, He then left for Chicago and visited friends there, leaving on the fated train for New York to participatein the Washineton centennial fos- tivities before returning to his home in Ports- mouth. hn Broughton of Portsmouth, who sin of Mr. Peverly, wires Mr, Leslie that he had left Chicago for New York on at train and that personal property belong- ing to him had been identified at the scene of the wreck.
