THE CITY. Harris, the dealer in rags, has been acoused of carrying off #150 from the Union Pacific shops. The case against William Mullinger, eharged with wife beating, will be heard by Judge Berka this afternoon. Officer Newman yesterday arrested Harry A. Ashford, a deserter from the United States army at Fort Robinson. A young boy named Keown was ar- rested last night, charged with the lar- ceny of a lot of old lead pipe from the Union Pucific shops. County Treasurer Bolln yesterday forwardod 835,104 to the state treasurer. This amount was coliected from Janu- ary 1to April 1, as state taxes. Burglars broke into Butt’s saloon at the corner of Thirteenth and Capital avenue, and stole a few dollars in change and a small quantity of liquor and cigars. Wigard, of Creston, In., is in the oity looking for her husband, who came to Omaba for a short vacation ten days ago and then disappoared. He is an engineer on the Kansas City road and had about $100 ‘with him. Chicken Thieves, Mrs. R. B. Trwin, who lives at 3340 Miami, complains that thioves have been stealing her poultry of late and ended the haul by stealing eight chickens Monday night—the last she had. The fearful increase in_mortality, result- ing from the bites ot rabid animals is alarm- ing, and the fact that there have been fatal results from the bites of animals which had exhibited no signs of rabies, adds to the alarm. The case in Walton county, Ga., is an instance. The poison was communicated by the bite of an ordinary house cat, which had never seemed to be mad. The reporter heurd yesterday of a_ remarkable case of a lady who was poisoned by fondling and kiss- ing @ poodle dog. The dog had distemper and died of it and the lady's blood was oisoned to a degree that her body was roken out in great ulcers and sores from head to foot. There has been a rumor in circulation that South Omagha intends plucing the street railway companies under heavy bonds to complete the extension of their lines by a cortain time, before granting them Irachises, Dr. Mercer, of the motor company, said yesterday that if this were true, and the bonds tere made oppressive, his company would not make the extension. “But,” said he, “if the difficulties of injunctions are done away with, and the people of South put no obstacles in our path, we will ve both our southern hines in opera- tion to the stock yards.” The motor company was yesterday granted apermit to extend its line on Sixteenth street from Burdette to Ohio, having first de posited with the city tréasurer, 2,5 pay for the payiug. The officers of the horse car company were yesterday moved to thecable power house, where they will be permanently located, the companies now running under the con: solidation, A New Train. The connecting link between Ne- braska and Kansas has just been placed in service by the Union Pacific railway.
