No Domand For New York's Cheap Wheat. CORN VALUES AT LOW EBB. Liberal Trade in Oats—~The Week Closes With a Bearish Feeling in Provisions -A Good Basi- ness in Cattle. CHICAGO PRODUCE MARKET, Cnicaao, Feb, 9. Tue Beg,|— [Special Telezram to \ore was a pause in the wheat wark day and prices traveled within the comparatively narrow range of 1'sc. The initial trading in May was on the basis of £1.0314, with sa! immediately afterwards at £1.04%. The dealings around the opeuing wero not on a v scale, and the senti- ment of the local crowd was bearish, though considerable timidity was displayed in “shorting the marke The twist of the past fow days is still too fresh in the miads boars to be e , and the it taught is bearing fruit in the line of caution, The first noticeable feature of the local trading was the rather frec selling by the houses and the brokers whose selling yes y had been set down as e g for the ‘aicbank party. Smart scalpers jumped to the conclusion that this was u russ of the bears to break the market, and the price was run up from $1.03% to #1.04, Hutchinson leading 1 the buying. Iadeed, Hutchinson's steady buying was the leading feature of tne whole m §1.04 the market sold off to session, | £1.03: advaneing with minor fluctuations to £1.03% lator, only w0 work back to §1.027¢ about noon. There ood buying orders around $L03@1.031, and the market was ste on the lower r e hed, and no open attempt was made to break through the supporting wall. The closing quotation was $1.031 for May. More activity was noti able in July, which ranged at90@die. The growing disposition to switen the trade over in July is observable, on theory that it is a safer delivery. The drift of the outside news was rather bullish, especially that eminating from Minneapolis. Barly in the day dis- patelies came in that sales of from 25,000 to 30,000 barrels of flour at that point had been ed to the home tr: he close John H ired that he had s¢ offer of s for export s haye sola about of tlour this week out of their warchouse s, ut home and elsewher e local sported as hoing quite active, ana a good consumptive demand for flour is ted from varions markets. They are also remarking on the singular spectacle that is presented of un- salcablo wheat at the seaboard and exporters buying at a market where wheat is mor )e a bushel higher than at tide- water. This anomalous state of things exists, and no sausfactory explunation has yetbeen advanced. For some reason the cheap wheat at New York is not wanted, butthe demand for the product of good wheat is not abated. The continued swelling of the corn re- ceipts over the expectations formed from the dreceding day’s estimates had its offect upon prices to their detriment, and the lLowest prices so far reached on the erop was reached to-day. The inspection sheet showed 491 cars roceived into store against 361 cars pre- dicted by the ts yesterday. There a fair amount of activity on the decline, but the low price having been struck, there was loss disposition to trade at the re- duced priccs. The last few minutes w the very lowest point, from hich there was no reaction, and final close was quite weak, aind shows a loss of #@7c over the eutire line of futures. Tn oats another liberal trade was recorded, with prices exhibiting }@%c advance, which not altogether sustained.
