The most brilliant social event of the week was that given by the Eiks at their spacious and palatial quarters on Wednesday evening The members had modestly dubbed it the Iadics' social session, although in reality it was given by gentlemen to the ladies and not by the ladies to the gentlemen, as it would appear. A large number of the fair wore in attendance, resplendent inbean toilets, while many of Omaha's leading { mercantile lights were pres delightful occas W 18 muster ¢ in his usual folicitous manner. part of the evening was devoted to rogramme of unusual merit, it beir with a selection by the N in club, The Mudrigal club, corsisting of Mrs, J. W. Cot ton, Miss Pennell and Messrs, Pennell and Wilkine, were next announced, and their ap pearance brought out a round of applause, Their beautiful rendizion of “Softly Falls the Shades of Ivening” brought out a hearty encore, Miss Pennell followed with a sweet contralto solo rendered in a most pleasing manner. A piano solo by Prof. Butler and another song by = the Madrigal elub followed, — when M. Jul Lombard, the famous and patriarchal campaien singer was announced, and ap pearod with a bass solo rendercd in a pow riul and deep voice, that has lost bat_little by age. He was warmly encored.
