S THE NEW BRID The Milwauke: sternation in R The act of congress authorizing to be constructed across the Missouri riye at a point in Morona county, Towa, and Burt county, Nebraska, catised more or less agitation in railroad cireles, inasmuch as the bill legislates and gives the right of wag over such bridge to the Chicago, Milwankee & St Paul railway. The bill author- izes the abov ad to construct nd maintain a-bridge at the above point: also to lay on this bridge a track for the more orfect connection of its Tailway; that said bridge shall be construcced and built’ without material interference with navigation that if smd bridge is made with unbroken span it must have tiree or mo channel spans of not less than 300 feet each in the clear and shall not be less in_any case than fifty feob ubove the high water inark. The plans of the structure must be drufted and the same ac cepted by the ry of wa vides that any y may run reasonable compensation, and that also the bridge shall in no way be lea ay exc sive in the right of way for telegraph lines. As amended the act will be made void unless construction of the bridge is commenced within two years and its completion in_three years together with its connection witk tho line of road. It will be remembered that short time ago the Milwauke road took steps toward the con- struction of a bridge across the river at a point where Chicago street in this city ter- minutes. Before this was effected the sition succeeded inlegislating that con out of the site on the grounds that tended to place a structure across the r that would impede navigation, und follow: up she transaction by obtaining the passage of a bill in congress authorizing the con struction of the bridge at this point but recently completed. Now that the Milwaukee road hus obtained the right of way, much conjecture is made as 1o its cir- cuit westward. That the Union Pacific will inaugurate a change in its passenger train service at an early date is generally understood at the head- quarters of that road, but just what this change will be, is a matter uvon which the officials decline to dilate upon to any great extent. Tuesday evening VicelPresident, Hol- colmb and General Passenger Agent Tebbets left for Kansas City, and thence they will inspect the traffic of the Kansas division of that roud. It is stated that the Union Pa- cific will inaugurate faster train service on all its branches at an_early period in the in- coming year. The strong fight that is being made for passenger trafic destined to the Pa- cific coast, by the various roads reaching that point, it is said, has caused the Union Pacitic to vepair its service in order to hold its patronage. l(uvoru received at the headquarters of the Union Pacific show a fall of snow along the main line toa point near Ogden.
