Mayor Rohrer, like many another man, is compelled to realize that facts are stubborn things and not always greeable as they might be. A question was propounded 10 the chief exeeutive of the city yesterday morn- ing regarding the vari ning on Upper Broadway by reason of his grace and clemency. It was desired to know how long the affair would be tolerated, but the mayor “hadn’t the slightest idea in re- gard to the matter.” Hethought that the case would “have to be investiguted.” but could not say when or by whom the inv Fation’ would be made.” Ho belicved that there was suciia place running within the city limits, and_had heard that the manage- ment had paid $24 into the city treasury for the privilege of running twelve nights, but had not been to sce the performance, and had not heard the outfit characterized as a lot of thugs, bums and crooks. If it should be demonstrated to him that such was the case, he thought that he might re- voke their license, although he was in some doubt as to whether or not he had that power. It was stated that the gang had been run out of Omana, but he was not_ sure that it was so. His inter- locutor hazarded the asscrtion that at any rate the Bluffs offe safe haven of refuge for all the outcasts driven out of other citics, as the authorities were careful not to inter: fore unless the people arose in and drove them toit. L The Revivalist The work of the Evangelists, Messrs, Smead and Swith, drew to a close here last evening, and yet not really to a close, for the goodly influences will long remain in this nity. o revivalists have visited this city who have worked more zealously, and yet followed methods to which so few ob- jections could be raised. Mr. Smead is not a sensational preacher, but is u very pleasing speaker. He is entbusiastic, and yet does not allow the emotional to becloud reason. Mr. Smith, his co-laborer, is a sweet singer, and his sougs have been a peculiarly at- tractive und effective feature of the wmeet- ings.
