A COMMENDABLE ENTERPRISE. The Council Committee's Findings in the Case of Emmons vs Mitch- ell-Matters in the Su- preme Court. 1029 P STreEt, LaxcoLN, Nov. 13, The state board of pharmacy was in scs- sion to-day. Present: W. C. Laue, Lincoln; H. D. Boyden, Grand Island; Henry Cook, Red Cloud; Max Becht, Omaha; A. F. Streitz, North Platte. The object of the session was to examine applicants for the practice of pharmacy in the state, under requirement of a statute en- actment. Forty-nine pharmaceutical stu- dents presented themselves for the examina- tion, and it is said they waded through the list of questions with a zcst that attested they had not been devoting time to the study of their fichoson profession in vain. Some of the members of the board of exam- iners stated that the state had a splendid corps of druggists, and that it was largely due to the law necessitating knowledge and examination before entering the ranks of the pharmaceutical profession. A COMMENDABLE ENTERPRISE. During the past year many prominent en- terprises have been inaugurated throughout the state, and most of them will doubtless rove to bo a great benefit v the respective [ocaiitics in whioh they are located; tidoed, somo of them I laims to state pride, and come in for & generous share of state inter- est. Filed with the secretary of state to day can be found articles incorporating the Lowa and Nebraska Phonograph company at Omaha, with a subscribed capital stock of §525,000, which has for its purpose the use, purchase, sale, renting, loasing and sub-leas- ing of the phonograph-graphophone patents of Thomas Alva Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Chichister A, Bell'and Tainter, with all improvements, owned or controiled by the North American Phonograph company. And, certainly, this enterprise can not help but awaken just shave of state interost. Itis destined to become a great enterprise at no distant day. ) Thoe following gentlemen organized and comprise the company: Frank Murphy, J. O. Phillips, Drake, Simon 8. Ott, Hamilton 5. Wicks and George E. Towks- bury, Busin operations are not to be confined to lowa and Nebraska alone, but will tuke in the territories of Dakota, Mon- LixcoLN BUREAU oF THE OMAHA Bex, } EMMONS V8, MITCHELL, The counci) committée appointed to inves- tigate Editor Emmons' charges against Oficers Mitchell and Pound handed in a8 ma- jority and minority report. But they differ in but one respect. Councilmen Meyer and Ensign recommended tho mayer to expel Mitehell and reprimand Pound. Pace mod- fles his report by recommending that both ofcars be reprimanded and Mitchell sus- pended from the foroe without pay for two wonths, ‘The findings are about the same. Emmons is exonerated from blame, Mitchell is de- nounced for making the arrestand it is alleged upon the evidence deduced, that it was without provocation, was mulicious, and that Emmons very roughly handled and without justification. ‘This is probably true, judgment basing upon the evidence permitted to be intro- duced, butthe truth, the wholo truth, and nothing but t ruth has not been told, and ssed in the committee room, or gentlomen whe saw the racket deliberately and wilfully lie. SUPKEME COURT NEWS, The following gentlemen were admitted to ractice: K. P.” Olmstead, John Kverson, , G. Thompson, J. O. Yeiser, W.S. Mo- inney. Stale ex rel Cox vs Hanlon. THAYER TO HIS FRIEND: Governor Tnayer wishes Tux BEr: to say that his letters and telegrams of congratula- tion have becn pouring in on him so continu- ously that he will find it impossible to answ them, but he wishes the writers to bear in mind'that fully he appreciates their kindness and good will, and he furthermore desires 10 express his sincere_gratitude to all who 80 manfully stood by him and gave him such carnest support during this remarkable political campaign. RAILROADS I POLITICS. A republican ticket has fust been received by Attorney General Leeso from a friend who livos in Chase county. Meeker was rail- roaded into the seat he will take in the Ne- braska legislature next winter. He was nominated by the knavery of the roads and clocted by the generous use of their moncy. But it now comes to the surfaco that Meeker traded everything on the ticket in any way hostile 10 the railroads, and even c culated, or caused to be circu- lated, ' all over his representative district, and especially in Chase county, re- publican tickets with Leesa's name omitted, At the polling places in Chase county it was impossible to find a ticket with the attorney general's name printed upon it, and whutever vote he received there was due to tho uso of the pencil. It 15 said that it can be proven that Meoker was @ party to this infamously treacherous deal. He will become one of Nobraska's logisiators, and, like Judas of old, will probable play at betrayal for thirty prices of si CITY SEWS AND XOTES. “There will be no more cedar block paving done in Lincoln this year. The work thus far gives satisfaction. A petition signed by fifty citizens of the city was submitted to the council last night, oraying for the removal of the W. C, T. U. ospital from the present site, on the ground that the contagious diseases treated there are dangerous to the neighborhood health. The pled is not without good reason, Hon. C. C. MeNish, of Wisner, ing county, who was in Lincoln left for lome on the ovening Ho was down to attend the meeting of the state republican e committee, of which ho is a member The council had an harimonious discussion last night ovar the report of the claims cou- mittee. When it comes to questions of finance the council seems to havo a supreme distrust of each other. The discussion was profiless. Half the mombers of the council got very wrathy. Judge Field is runnimng off the docket of the district court st a hvely rate, but no im- portant decisions have been made to-day. The city council has dedicated a portion of Eleventh strect (1 to C) for fast driving. It scems that the *dads” are bent on having souo place for the dear peopl 10 broak thei necks. Changes Mr. Connell Suggests in Ex- isting Laws. In ashort talk yesterday, Hon.W. J. Connoll outlined a few points on which he suggested legislation should be passed the coming ses- sion of the legislature. One of these was an ameudment tw the election law which would provide for the counting of votes every three hours. Another was the passage of a registration law which harmony with the opinions of the supreme court, and which would provide registrars to sit on the day of clection to register those who had not been able to reg- ister befora. In the matter of assessing there was also required a change, and Mr. Connell favored & county assessor who stould hold his offico by tue year, and assess property at its full valuation, such value to be deter- mined by sales of other property of relative location and worth. Such an assessment would givo us a better showing in a financial way in the east. The charter should also be amended so as to give the right of eminent doman to tho city for the purpose of acquiring land for park and boulevard purposes. Mr. Connell offered to enlarge upon these ideas at an early day. Beware of worthless imitations of Dr. Jones’ red clover tonic. The genuine curcs headache, piles, dyspepsia, ague, malaria, and is 4 perfect tonic and blood purifier. Pric 60 cents, Goodman Drug company. e WHERE WILL HE END? A Lad With all the Instincts of a Bashi Bazouk, On complaint of . Stoud, Christie Con- neer, a lad of ten years was brought to the county juil yesterday under order of Judge Olmstead, of Florence, He is considered a fit subject for the reformn school. Mr. Stoud stated that he was & ranchman living on Statton’s island, some six miles from Flor- once, and that the boy’s fathor was in his employ. About three years ago the mother of the lad died, and the father who is a reck- less kind of a man paid but little attention to his offspring, and the boy maturally became wild and mischiovious. Mr. Stoud ~ took the lad to his home and endeavored 1o care for him as o mere mutter of charity, Of late- or, young Conueer has taken particu lar delight in destroying everything he could 1ay his hands on, I addition to Fuining tne houso furniture he would take down tho barn door, the horses stalls, and all the out- houses. On several occasions he attempted to aestroy his benefactor's barn and house by setting then on fire, Last ¥riday the boy broke down the barn door, took one of Stoud’s horses and ram away. He was caught in Council Bluffs Monday night and when asised why he had taken thehorse re- plied tuat he did not want to walk when he coald ride. The lad cau neither write nor read, and suys he nevor oven opened a book. S It is by copying after nature that man gets best results. Dr. Jones’ red clover tonic is nature’s own remedy, is purely vegetable, can be taken by the most delicate. Cures all stomach, kid- ney and liver troubles.
