Martin Fanell, J. F. Foran and Jerry Hirsch were each fined $8.10 for booze fines and patrol fare. Jerry was the only one who had the wherewithal with which to liguidate, and the others were locked up again. Barney Casady turned all of his pockets and his socks inside out in a vain at- tempt to find $7.60 to appease the avarice of the court, but without avail. Three huttons and an wdvertising card were all he could scrape up, and he tloated back into the sewer with the others. John Doe was charged with vagrancy. Our good and useful friend, the postman, fecls it from the excess of his work on foot; the doctor or nurse feels it when obliged to forfeit the natural time of sleep; the man in the money market feels it when, for that which is not bread. he lets his excitement of sale or purc y his heart away into wild hope or wilder de- spair; the man of unbridled passion, who grows pale or red with rage, feels it up to the extremest tension, and is almost invariably cut short in his reer, long before it s at its natural ful- filment, by this fact of cardiac wear alone.
