The pastor of the First M. church of this city may have some doubt about his re turn from the conference, now so n at hand, to his present charge. Of late it has been known that there is some opposition to him by ofiicers of the church, and it has been pleaded by them that, for his own interest a removal would be best, as well as for the in- tere f the church which hie has served for the past two years. A spontaneous movement was made more than two weeks ago intended to effect his removal. This eruption was reported (o him, pro mptly and quictly, by a committee appointed for the purpose, which led to his making a counter-exertion to be reappointed for unother year. The efforts were carried onm good order, provoking very little of feeling common to such strifes, but with a determination on the part of his adversaries to maintain their point, and, in the end, carry it. The quarterly confer- ence had agreed before this to adjourn to meet on Saturday evening, September 1, and the pastor was appointed to preside, At the adjourned meeting a motion was ‘made to take the resolution from the table, huiv arbitrarily ruled the motion out of After this ruling a motion was made to appeal from the decision of the chair to the members preseat. This motion the chair refused to entertain. This action on the part of the pastor wus construed as a sitting down on the majority, and the conference was pow- erless in its attempt to accomplish anything further in this direction, and at once ad- journed sine die.
