THE OMAHA DAILY BEE: SATURDAY. JUNE 16, 184 RECENTS ADJOURN 10 JULY. The Prinoipal Polnts to Be Con- sidered Then. IS MR. The Disturbing Elements Will Be Weeded Out Before the Opening " of the School in September— School Money For Counties. BILLINGS GERE'S I1DOL. Srrrer, LaxcoLx, June 18, The boaid of regents, after a three days’ #easion, came up to the principal featurcs in tho university controversy to-day and ad Journed over until July 10. It is stated that nt that time the chancellor business, and the professors-who-want-to-be-chancelor busi- ness, and the doctor, the swine plague, Bill- ings business, and all other contentions and (Qiissentions will be made a special order of hearing, and that the war and rumors of war wrill be settled prior to the commencement of the school year in Sentember. There was no test vote in the session to-day that could e taken as a criterion as to the standing of the regents, It is generally believed, however, that Regents Gere, Roberts and Davis are In favor of dismissing the chancellor and Regents Mallalieu, Burnham and Hull are in favor of his retirement. The Billings matter takes a great deal of promincnce, and if the chancellor was in_favor of retaining this party it is evident that Mr. Gere has one idol above all others, and that s Dr. Billings, and when the chancellor some time ago ob- jected to Dr. Billings representing the state university in his attacks on the stato live stock commission and Dr. Salmon and the national bureau, he lost the support of Mr, Gere. In the grand round up Dr. Billings will come in for his share of attention and the faculty will be passed in review by the regents. There arein the faculty a number of educated gentlemen, wide awako and pro- gressive in their work, with modern ideas aud modern methods. ' Asarule these are not the disorganizers, but, it is said t some who for the peace and prosperit institution should, if the chancellor is dis- missed, be ticketed on the same train. Meantime there will be a little vacation for the interested parties prior to July 10, STATE SCHOOL FU The state superintendent bas just made the semi-annual apportionment of school monies based uj Jpon the amount in the stato treasury certified up by the treasurer as subject to istribution, and upon the recent census of he school population in the state. The grati- fying fact, in comparison with the apportion- ment of six months ago, is noticed that while t‘t‘:fl school population 'constantly increas e amount of school money to be dfltrlbu& fncreasos at a great rate, all of which Allustrates the magnificent heritage provided for the schools of the state. Tt was the pleasantest day of the tour. The coach loft early in the morn ing, and stopped before sundown at the Greensman. Says Mr. Crawford: “T had along conversation this evening with Mr. Blaine, in which, however, politics were carefully eschewed. Ho has seen the Times dispatoh, indicating a very strong movement on foot to nominate him by acclamation om ‘the meeting of the convention, but has llothinr to say ing the matter. While I have little douht that Blaine is well informed of every- uung concorning the gathering clans at Chi- and as to what their political com- pléxion s, one_would hardly think 8o from his disengaged, frank, unpreoccupiea man- ner. It would have been an edifying sight for the gentlemen who at present are doubt less making the corridors of tne Palmer house echo with their political palaver to have scen their chief this afternoon gather- ing flowers and making them up into wroeathes and nosegays in the castle grounds at Ticknill.”!
