Beckstrom, a young farmer from Oak- 1and, this state, arrived in this sity Monday evening bound for southwestern Kansas on a prospecting tour. Thinking a revolver wouldn't be a bad picce of luggage to carry with him to the southiwest border, he stepped into Nissen, Alford & Co.’s hardware store, at 812 North Sixteenth street,and asked to be shown some guns. George (. Nissen, ome of the proprictors, and & man totally un familiar with firearms, by the way, waited upon him. He took down an improved Harrington & Richardson self-acting, A%-calibre revolver and unaertook to show him how it worked. In doingthis he foolishly inserted a cartridge in one of the cylinders to show him how the extractor worked. Then he cl A the barrel and be- gan to snap the trigger. The third time he snapped it the chamber holding the shell was reacned, and as he bad idiotically pointed the gun at his prospective purchaser, of course he was strick by the bullet. It went in & little below the groin, and, following the long bone of the leg around, lodged a few inches above the knee behind. Beckstrom fell to_the floor in a faint, and the hor- rified proprictor and his attaches gatherod around the prostrate man thinking he was dead. He partly revived, however, and after administering rostoratives the patrol was called and the wounded man, as well ss Mr. Sissen, was taken to the station.
