ST AN INJUNCTION GRANTED. Judge Doane Issues an Important Order to the Mayor and Others. Attorneys E. W. Simeral, Hall and McCul- loch, representing the Bee Publishing com- pany, appeared before Judge Doane in the district court yesterday afternoon and ap- plied for an order of injunction restraining the city of Omaha, through her responsible agents, Mayor W. J. Broatch, St. A. D. Bal- combe, chairman of the board of public works, and the school district from annulling or setting aside the plans and specifications of Architect E. E. Myers on the city hall, or frowm accepting or adopting the plans or spec- ifications of any other architect. The application is based on six different clearly and concisely cut and stated reasons, the first of which is embraeced in the fore- going paragraph, and the others are as fol- lows: 2. Or from removing or destroying the basement and sub-basement aiready erected upon lots 5 and 6 in b ock 116, A 8. From paying or causing to be paid to said Reagan Bros., or their assigns, any money out of the said city hall fund for the erection of said basement and sub-basement until such time as the architect, E. E. Mycrs, shall approve of the work already done under the contract with the Regan Bros. rom purchasing or contracting for the purchase of any other real estate in the city of Omaha for the erecting of the city hall building on any other grouna than lots 5 und 6 as aforesaid. 5. And that said school district and said oficers, agents and employes be sustained from annuling the contract heretofore en- tered into it and the city of Omaha for the erection of the city hall on said lots 5 and 6 or entering into a contract for the erection of a city hall or upon any other lots in said city. 6. And for such other and further relief as this court may deem just and proper, Accompanying thése reasons are a large number of other documents, namely the proc- lamation of ex-Moyor Boyd, the contracts with Myers, Reagan Brothers, the school district and other important proofs and alle- gations, As soon as the matter was laia before Judge Doane he promptly granted the injunc- tion and the usual three days was allowed in ‘which an answer to it can be filed. HOW REAGAN BROTHERS FIGURE. The contract between the city and Reazan Brothers for the work to be done on the base- ment and sub-basement of the city hall was $15,640, but through a peculiarity in the way suring, seemingly patent to themsel present a statement which has para- vz0d the city engineer and completely astoundod the bo&n¥of public works. Reagan Brothers have manipulated the figures in a way that affords them to say that the work yet remaining to be done can be finished for 3,820, which experts say is as ridiculous as itis impracticuble. But the broadness of their cheek and the iron of the Reagans’ nerve is better displayed in the itemized statement which they sent into the council lust Tuesday night in the name of their ap- pendage, Brennan & Co. According to the! way of keeping books they have done $4, worth of work ou the building, which does include a “bill of extras” amounting to 04.24, and interest in the sum of F84.50, miking in all a grand total as their clain against the city of $53.197.74, upon which they have received $19,256.32, thercby leav- ing the city indebted to them in the sum of £54,851.42." The injustness of this claim was 50 Apparent that even the councilmen could not let it slip through without the inspection it demands, and which the taxpayors insist shall be complete and thorough. “THE MIDWAY,” Corner Grand and W’yommg Avenues, Kearney, Nebraska Finest in the State outS|de of Omaha. Proprletor. Opened, Wednesday, February 15th, 1888. T. C. Brainard, A DAIRY REVOLUTION. An Old Army Officer Makes a Wonder- ful Discovery. Anold army major at Crab Orchard, who is well known in Omaha and other parts of the state, claims to have made one of the greatest dairy discoveries of the age, whic! if true, will revolutionize butter-making, By the use of an innocuous plant he says he can convert a pound of milk into a pound of but- ter. For the past two or three months he has been experimenting with the plant, and in every instance has been successful. The product is said to be equdl to the best cream- ery butter. In Crab Orchard, where he has soid this new butter, he finds & ready sale for the article, it being pronounced superior to the average dairy product. The plant which is used in the butter making process is & com- mon one on every farm and the discovery of its dairy value was accidentally made. The major i making arrdngements to secure a caveat for the new process, and until he is thus protected by the patent law he does not desire to have his name mentioned. 1f the discovery is all he claims it to be the major hus struck something botter than @ gold mine. Miss Irene Anderson, 619 Pierce street, fell on the slippery payement near her home yesterday and dislocated her elbow. The Tmperial club gave a masquerade for its }uurth dance of the season at the Saunders street hall. Some fifty couples were present with the usual fantastic costumes. The club is composed mainlyof North Omaha people and they always enjoy them- selves. The fifth and best of the Hyperion club this season was the leap year party given by the ladies who have have attended the dancesof the club this winter. Fifty-five gentlemen with their lady escorts were in attend- ance and the gentlemen ali agreed that the ladies had in every way eclipsed them in their previous parties. The dance as usual was held in Masonic hall. The main building of the Anheuser- Busch brewing company will be erected this season. Work will be commenced the first of spring. The contracts were awarded yesterday, the pnnmylc ones beihg to Bailey & ()lc on and Valentine Knock. The supervising architect will be Henry Voss. The building will cosi $75,000. The grand mask ball given by the Concordia society at Germania hall was a brilliant affair. Nearly one hundred and fifty couples were present and represented the bighest German socicty of Omaha and Council Bluffs. The dancing hall was magnificently decor- ated with German colors, rare flowers and smilax. The toilets of the ladies were simply exquisite, and the charac- ters assumed by all of the guests were unique and elegant. The maskers showed great taste in the selection of costumes. A full account of this really elegant affair will be given in the Sun- dny Bee.
