Troubles of the Man Out West Who & the Archimedean Lever. Arizona Kicker: *‘Last Friday night while We were engaged at the office and Our wife was over tosce the Widow MeGinnis some base thief entered Our house and stole Our watch, which was out of repair, but 3. We demand to know whether Constable Hank Smith was elected to sit on his coat tails inGreen's grocery and play checkors, or to protect tae people from the hands of the de- spoilers? Hank i a good fellow and his subscription to the Kicker is alw: d in advance, but_duty is duty. Our wife is not in good health, and the shock of losing our watch has almost upset her. Our dog has also been act- ing strangely of late, leading Our neigh- bor, Judge Iobbs, who, by the way, is building an addition to his wood-shed, and will probably be a candidate for governor this fail, to remark that he may have been poisoned. May Heaven forgive the human hyena who took Our watch, for neither We nor Our wife can ever do so. “Ixplanatory—That refined and cul- tured reptile, Bill Bosworth, whose chief occupation is swilling down forty- rod whisky and lying about his betters, is cireulating thé story that he gave Us a licking last Sunday night. Now, the truth of the matter is that Bill has been mashed on Our eldest daughter, and he called at Our house Sunday evening to ask Our permission_to spark her. Wo promptly and indignantly showed him the door, while Our wif stood ready with a horsewhip. Bill dared Us to come out and We went. We hit him three times that We know of, and We kept count of five kicks We got in on him, and in two minutes he was begging for mercy. to be any fighter, but if We can’t lick Bill Bosworth with one hand tied be- hind Us, We will go out of the news- puper business. Our friends have ad- vised Us to.shoot him, and if it wasn't for Our wife We'd do it. Bill, don’t you come fooling around Us no more!™” “A Strange Case—Last Thursday night, while We were sound asleep in Our bed, Our wife awoko us with the startling information that something was going on in Our back yard, We at once sprang out of Our bod to investi- gate. Hastily pulling on n portion of Our clothes—the suit made by Weston, the popular tailor—We moved through various rooms in Our residence until reaching the kitchen, There We found the window wide open. The following diagram will explain matters to our readers more clearly: w. D. S. i, W—Window. D—Door. S-Sink. T—Table. 1B -Broom. W—We. “The open window stared Us in the face as We stood there ready to sell Our life dearly. There is nothing of the coward about Us, Seeing nothing and hearing no further noises We advanced to the window and closed it, and finally returned toOur bed. Who raised that window? What for? Was the object to murder Us and Our wife? Who was the villain? Which way did he escape? It will ever remain a bloody mystery.” galsegce ot O Read the Death Roll Which the bills of mortality of any large city may be fitly designated, and you will find that renal and vesical mal- that is to say, those that affect vs or bladder, have a remark- able prominence—we had almost said— preponderance. Bright's disease and diabetes in the chronic stage are rarvely cured, and gravel, catarrh of _the blad- der and enuresis slay many. Yot at the outset, when the trouble merely amounts to inactivity of the organs in- volved, the danger may be nullified by that pleasant venal tonic and diuretic, Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, which im- purts the requisite amount of tone to the organs, without over-exciting them, and the use of which is convenient, and involves no elaborate preparati Dyspepsia, a usual concomitant of rer complaints, and debility, which r invariably produce, are remedied by it. So also ure constipation, malarial, vheu- matic and nervous ailments. b i Singular Freak of an Owl Boston Globe: Conductor Prescott, of the Lowell system of the Boston & Maine road, had a passenger on the 7:05 run from Boston to Arlington Tuesday night whom he could not collect a fare from. The road for which he works d mands that fares must be collected for each passenger, but Mr. Prescott will not lose his position for this one ove sight of thé rules. The passenger was an owl, an ordinavy, every-day owl, and could furnish neither a fare nora pass. Tt was between North Cambridge June- tion and Lake street that the "passenger got aboard. He was not a particular owl, and so he contented himself with a position on the head of the engine, above the guard and below the headlight. That was about 7:14. The train 1 on to Arling- ton, making all the usual stops and noise, and still the owl sat still. At Arlington the engine changed ends ith the train, but did not turn round itself. The work of switching backward and forward did not cause the owl any uneasine; and when the train was ready to make the return trip to Boston, he still manfully held his position and continued his réfusal to pay his fave. At 8:10 the train reached Boston, and then the train crew, consisting of Con- ductor Prescott, Engineer Blood, Fi man Newhall and Brakemen Lovejoy and Parker, gathered about and at- tempted to make the owl explain his po- sition, The conductor reached up to 1ift his serene highness from his breezy cch and was welcomed with a sting- ing rebuke in the shape of a peck from the bird’s beak, Fors was used and now the owl “sits like a major” on a rod in the home of the fireman, a captive and a willing one, too. He will be cared for by the men. His ride was o strange one and his serenity startling - Old pill boxesare spread over the land by the thousands after having been emptied by suffering humanity.” What a muss of sickening, disgusting medi- cine the poor stomach has to contend with.
