The official test of the new aerial ex- tension truck took place yesterday after- noon at the government building. The trial was a pronounced success, exceed- ing even the expectations of the most sanguine. The long seventy-five-foot ladder was tried at different angles and elevations and was mounted by both Mr. Bruegger, agent of the builders of the truck, and Chief Templeton, of the five department, When placed against the huilding a half dozen of the boys quickly skipped to the top, their com- bined weight m:\I\inr_' no perceptible strain upon the ladde Mr. Bruegger complimented the boys v highly for their work as green hands, and pro- phesies the ~)wl'dy arrival of the time when they will beat the record of the boys neross the river, who, he says, can raise their ladder cighty feet in fifty scconds. Although there are but few buildings in the city that would require a seventy-five-foot ladder, there are many that could receive no benefit from the ones_on the old truck. The mapy three and four-story buildings in the o would be decidedly ‘‘pokerish” plices in case of a fire, unless the de- partment was supplied with an appar- ratus similar to the new one. —_——— You Want Them?
