MYERS, This gentleman, well-known to many of the oldest citizens of Omaha, died on last Friday at the Sturtevant house, New York, at the age of fifty-six years, after an illness of about six weeks. At the time of his death he was licutenant colonel and deputy general quar- termaster, und on the retired list, where he had been since 1333, During the war Gen- cral Myers acted as quartermaster in St Louis, where it is claimed he dispensed more money than any quartermaster in the service, He came to Omaha in the spring of 1366, as chicf quartermaster of the department of the Platte naining h Washingt till 1570 when he went to where he filled a similar posi- tion till 1576, Ho was then transferrcd to San Franc where he filled in the depart- ment of the Pacific the position of chief quar- torm also, In 79 he was transferred to Chicago, remaining there till 1581, when ho was ordered to St. Paul, in the department of Dakota, at which place’ he sought ana wus granted permission to retire from active ser- vice. For the last four years General Myers has been leading & quict and uneventful life, being more or less enfecbled from hard worl, although mot yet 60 years of age. e was the possessor at the time_of his death of the northwest corner of Sixteenth and Davenport streets, the beautiful brick house on which he built when he resided in Omaba. This property was about to change hands, and on it was to bo built a palatial Pythian hall, but it is now thought that tha general's death may defer the transfer until his children become of age. General Myers leaves a widow, one Srancisco, three sons—Henry, Rand®lph and ip, who are uttending school ay Sing daughter—a Mrs. Page, in San and CHARLES P. DEUEL. “This well known and respected gentleman, the father of Henry P, Deuel, died Sunday &t the udvanced age of eighty years and four months, His health had been fafling partic- ularly for the last month, though he became daugerously ill only about a week ago. Hoe had been a hearty and vigorous man through life and it was mainly old sge which finally caused his death. Mr. Deuel was born in Wooster, N. Y., 1807, and moved to Farmini ton, Il in_ 1837, He remained there till 1864, when he moved here and has since resided bere with his son, Henry, the well-known ticket agent of the' Chicago, Burlington & Quincy. Mr. Deuel was a farmer, though for the lust twenty-three years he has lived with his son, enjoying his hospitality and passing the years of an honorable old_awe. The remains were taken to Farmington Iil, yesterday afternoon, where they will bo buried besido those of his wife, who dicd somie ycars ago. e Huppiness depends very much on the condition of the liver and kidneys.
