Patrick Boylan, father-in-law of Police Sergeant Moysten, was fonnd dead yester- day morning on a bench in John Krauzer's saloon, at Twelfth and Cass streets. The old gentleman was about the saloon the night before complaining of a pain in hus chest. A blanket was finully spread over the bench and he was told to lie down and rest. This hedid, and shortly fell into what seemed a sound slumber. He was not disturbed until terday morning, when upon tempting to arouse him, Krauzer discov- ered that he was dead. His family and relatives were quickly notified and his sons-in-law, Sergeant Moysten and Peter Conners, with their wives, arrived at Krauzer's place shortly thereafter. The remains were laid out at the saloon, re- moval being denied until after the coro- ner’s inquest. This was held yesterday af- ternoon, the verdict being that Boylan came to his_death from rheumatism of the heart. He wasspoken of as a fine old gentleman, und his death is a source of much sorrow to a wide circle of relatives and friends. The funeral will take place to-day from the family residence, cor- ner Tenth and Chicago streets. Notice. Any person giving information to the undersigned of the whereabouts of Gil- bert Everton will confer a favor on him. He left O'Neill, Neb., three years since, and has not since been heard from. B. F. Rosexrts, O'Neill, Neb, s Unbrotherly Brothers. Jesse and Andy Martin are brothers. They are also horse traders. Yesterday morning they were coming in on Saun- ders street in & buggy. They got into a dispute over the disposal of a piece of horseflesh. Andy smote Jesse up along- side of the jaw, and Jesse got Andy's right thumb 1n his mouth and chewed theend of it off. Then their horse took fright at the struggle going on witinn the vehicle, and kicked up his heels and ran off. The unbrotherly brothers were dumped into the gutter together. Andy happened to be on_top. He begnn to hand it to Jesse a la Sulli- van. Then Jesse suceecded in getting hold of an old broom handle, and he knocked Andy down and beat him up until bis own mother wouldn’t recognize him, They were run in, and Dr. Ralph dressed their wounds. 'Then they stood up before Judge Berka and were fined $10 and costs each. Jesse settled the bill for both, and they left the court room u);,alhar just as if nothing unusual had occurred. Gas and Electric Light, Some time ago the BEE announced that a proposition had been submitted to the council by the Thompson-Houston Electric Light company, to illuminate the city, at a figure which the represent- atives of the company claimed would reduce the (‘xpcngc of lighting Omaha by nearlz one-third.” Up to this time, noth- ing further has been heard of the proposition. It was referred to the committee on gas and electric hghts, and in their pigeon-hole it now seems to be sleeping. A citizen commented on the matter yesterday, and asserted that the propumion was wortllv at least respectful consideration, and the longer it remained unacted upon the more the people would be inclined to feel the domination of the gas company, which he claimed in no way fuvored competition, Board of Public Works, The board of public works met-yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and recommended to the council the final estimate of P, McCauly, tor sewer building in district 82, amounting to $18,834.66, ‘A resolution was adopted notifying the firm of Regan Bros. and their bondsmen, James C. Brennan,Alexander McGuvock and John Wakefield, t three months over the time allowed the first mentioned to complete the basement of the new city hall had elapsed, and that some steps must be taken tosee that the work is com- pleted this year or elsc to suffer the conse- quences. They were also ordered to meet the chairman of the board of public works on next Saturday at 2 p. m.to talk over the matter with a view to ar- rlvmf at an understanding in the case by all the parties interested, A Model Department, ‘The board of fire and police commis- sioners have been inspecting the fire department, They made a careful in- spection of the men, engine houses, borses, machines and hose, and found everything in an extraordinarily satis- factory coudition. The engine houses were all found in a neat and metbodical condition, the mea were tidy and keenly alive to the lmsmnu of their positions, in fact every of nu department was all that comid be desi 1 of which is & very farge feather in Chief Galligan's ur The board claims that no city in the country of the size of Omaha can boastof such a thorough fire department.
