THE DISPLAYS IN ART HALL. Many Handsome Proofs of the Skillof the Disciples of the Beautifal —Jay-Eye-See—Oapital City News. [FROM THE DEE'S LINCOLN BUREAU.] Yestorday was a great day, but to-day will find 50,000 people on the ground to see the fair and Jay-Eye-See. The rain of Monday night settled the dust, cooled the air and made everything look eclean and bright for the morning as it opened up with the sun shedding its rays of warmth and lustre on the earth's surface on and about the fair grounds. Late and early trains brought thousands of spec- tators and those interested in the fair work, so that by 8 o'clock all facilities for reaching the grounds were crowded with an eazer throng, Agricultural hall continues to be the center of Jattraction for the sturdy sons of toll, of whom there are far more this year than heretofore, they coming with well filled purses to iake in the sights. The display by counties is now complete, giving one a good idea of the fullness of the harvest this year. BROWN COUNTY. The exhibit marked *‘Brown county” is properly the individual exhibit of R. W, Blake, a member of the state board who has spent much time and labor in pre- senting to the public the products and possibilities of his locality. He shows 207 kinds of grasses, four varieties of wheat, two of oats and thirty of corn, all being what is known as a sod crop, vege- tables in endless variety, peanuts, mel- ons, and a full assortment of pumpkins, besides a quantity of the various kinds of soil contained 1n his county. BUFFALO COUNTY, Under Mr. Isaac Millard, one of its veteran farmers, holds no second place in the list of counties. 1ts showing of agri- cultural products is far above the aver- age, and enjoys the reputation of being one of the foremost counties in the state in the point of wealth and farm products. CHEYENNE COUNTY, ‘This county, which alone is larger than most of the eastern states, presents her interests in a pleasing way, and shows her sod crops to advantage. Yl‘mu county, while it does not lead in point of agricul- ture, has a very creditable display, and a few minutes talk with the geuntleman in charge will soon convince one that it has the material to produce anything in the agricultural line which this chmate and zone will pern DUNDY COUNTY. ‘W hat this lacks space and quantity 18 fully made up in quality and the pleas- 1ng manner of its superintendent, Mr, L. N. Parsons, Here are shown the usual products of the state, principally of sod products, including native grasses. There are also on exhibition the heads of buf- falos, a bull, cow and calf, which are re- uro exceedingly rare, Those desirous of lookiug st goods of rare merit should stop at this place and enquire about the Argila horns. he Lincoln business college has a nice hole-in-the-wall, and is showing the peo- ple the ability of its students 1n the art ot penmanship. Caso, of Ka. cine, accompanie by his wife, arrived in the city and Mr. Case will be present in person at the test of speed by his little horse. 'The BEE, in conversation with Mr. Case, is assured that he is as anxious as the public to see his horse do its prot- tiest on the occasion of his first appear- ance in the west. The day promises to be the finest and the track will be in ex- cellent shape, Jay-Eye-See is in good coudition but on account of continued wet weather and a heavy track Mr. Bit- ters, his driver, has not been able to work the little wonder in preparatory work as much as he desired. l\lr. Case, in speaking of his horse, said that not- withstanding the fatigue of a trip to and from Nebraska that was regarded as as hard upon the horse as a race, Jay-Eye- See would trot in Chicago October 1 against Patron, as agreed upon a short time ago. This Chicago trot 1s for $5,000 a side and was sought by Patron, that is the mew horse of the year in speed cir- cles, being but five years of age and hav ing a record already of 2:14}. The trot at Chicago will be three in five and Jay- Eye-See will make as good a record nt the state fair as possible to show Chicago what to expect. THURSDAY'S PROGRAMME, ‘The tollowing 18 the official programme of examinations for awards and for the races on Thursday. Three ot the best races of the fair, aside from the Jay- Eyo-See trot and the ree ~for-all, are on the list. Examination to commence at 8 o'clock in the forenoon. " Cl 1--Horses.
