If the circumstances attending the crection of the buildin e of like cl acter with the local eyents which ki come to the knowlede of the Beg, itis evident there are more politics than bricks in Unele Sam’s new house. Mr. O. J. King, of Corning, was first appointed as superintending architect, His only weakness scems to have been that he was a republican. Mr. Pusey, who as congressman had much to do in securing the appropriation for the build ing, is said to have teit it to be his luty to have one of his brother democrats se cure the $7 4 day, which this position pays. Mr. King stepped down and out, and Mr. Maxon, a democerat, stepped into his plac As night watehman for the builc Im~r the old and well known citizen, “( Rob- s he is familiarly call cn, it be ing deemed well tha t should have this income ot §60 month, The duties of this position are implied in the name, but they are not very arduous. It scems that it was nec essary to have some one to look out les some mischicvous boy should run away with one of the stone walls, or some drunken fellow should tip over'the tower, Having thus provided for two of the staunch demoerats, the victors scem greedily to ch after the rest of the Spoils, PWhen Mr. King was given the position rintendi architeet, Mr. C. E. Bell was appoin s his clerk to keep the books and ounts \lr Bell is a worthy ymm‘, nooa brother of M. E. Bell, the ~n|v ising arclitect of the treasury at Washington The young man has lilled_the position very acceptabiy, and when Mr. King was supplanted by the present democratic ntendent, Mr. Maxon, Mr. Bell was retained. Maxon has apparently been very friendly to Mr. Bell and fully satisfied with the manner in which kis duties have been performed, but Mr. Bell is another one who is unfortunate enough to be a republican. Besides |ll'|ll" a republican, Mr. Bell is snid to have been so foolish as to enter ('ump int in accordunce with his igeas of his _duty. He did not think that Gia Robinson was performing the duties of night watchman as he should, and on ecalling Robison’s attention to these matters. war at once opencd between them. Bell reported Robinson to Mr. Maxon. The latter r him to Mr. Puse; 3 advised Bell very friendly to go right and do what he deemed to be his duty in regards to reporting causes of complaint coming to his knowledge. Mr. Bell did go, and made final complaint, insisting upon Robinson's discharge Mr. Maxon_1s said to ve been per- suaded by Mr. Pusey not to take any steps toward sccuring Robinson's dis- charge, as the latter was a democrat, and personal and political reasons forbade. After complaining in n to Mr. Maxon and the local leaders of the democracy, Bell wrote to W stating the s of complaint, ask for his remo nl and decly m,T ()ml Robmson was not removed, he, Bell, would resign. As soon as’ this letter reached Washington & telegram was re- ceived instructing Maxon to remove Robinson. Since then Milt Holday, one attaches of the democr paper, of which Postmaster Bowman is the owner, has been filling the positon but has been deemed by the democratic leaders as_only a temporary substitute, they being intent on securing Robinson's T instatement. Postmaster Bowman’s mis- sion to Washington some wecks ago cen in Robinson'sinterest. vials of wrath are now being poured upon Bell's head for his action in the matter. For a republican to hold any position about the government building was, of itself, n gricvous outrage in the eyes of Messrs. Pusey, Bowman et al., but when this republican dared to utter what he deemed just causes of comvl against a democratic employe, his sins beeame unpardonable. Mr. Maxon to have had no wish or cause for ¢ Bell's removal, but the local lead- ers of the democracy or- dered, and he had to obey. A letter was prepared for him to sign, recommending the removal of Bell and the appointment ot a democrat. “He was urged to sign it, but vrotested against the injustice of it. The pressure hus been kept upon him for several months, however, and doubtless there apy Al before his eyes the vision of the possibi of losing his own official head should Im refuse to comply with the demands of the ex-congressman and the pre master, Dr. Maxon seems to b too conscientions to be willing to sign a recommendation for the removal of a re- Yuhllflm who was performing his duties aithfully, but as a compromise to consci- ence he was at last prevailed upon tosign a letter to the department stating that he “had no objections’ to such a change being made. With this sort of quasi en- dorsement of the superintending a tect, the section bosses of the party made another appeal to Washington. "1t has resulted in Mr, Bell's head ‘being taken off at last. It is understood that he has been thus removed to make room for A. Troutman, a pet of the party, who as a great friend of Bowman, Pusey, et al, has been well carea for. He s been ity clerk, alone losing that position, was gven the deputy United States marshalship, and” now another place is provided for him, ‘The change 13 expected to be mad e with the opening of the incoming month, The move to foliow this is the re-instate- ment of Robinson, and then with the po- siti tilled with those selected by Messrs. RICHARDS' Electric Bath Rooms and Offici No. 607 Mynster St., Council Bluffs. One Square North of the P. O. Building Treatment and Baths Given Ladies by Mrs. Dr. Richards on Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. Electricity 1s a remarkable naturalagent which has long been known and utilized as a remedy for disease and continued experience has enlarged its sphere of useful- ness and improved its appliances by which it is employed until its utility and virtue become second to no other known remedy, in the treatment of certain forms of dx\( se. This agent is employed here in all its most serv ble forms by the aid of large batteries, static machines, electric cabinet baths, electric water haths, the elec- tric chair and electrodes for treating all parts of the body. We are prepared to do all that can be done with these great remedies. In cases of Rheumatism Neuralgia, Paralysis, Spinal Irritation, Rectal Discases, Nervous Discases in females arising from Uterine disorders and m other chronic and subacute troubles, it stands at the head of all known remedies or methods cure. A thorough study of it for years and the successful treatment of hundreds of cases, after all other remedies had “fail- i ence of its great worth d perfectly satisfies us with its good sed body. — In the great hospitals and sanitarians of America ricity is lcading all other methods of treatment. In all leading s the professors are teaching electricity as one of the potent remedies and a al chair is appointed in many of them, Many of the ablest physicians of all schools are making aspecialty of electricity to the exclusion of almost everything else. This great remedy has often fallen into disrepute by being recommended and used by persons, and physicians, perfectly ignorant of ifs propertics and powers, who would as often advise and use the wrong current as the right one or depend upon it in_diseases for which it is not adopted. We are sure that when the people become educated in the use of electricity for many diseases with which the body is afllicted and find the great good therein, the medicines and patent righted nos- trums upon which they now rely will grow old and dusty on the shelves, Electricity is nature’s wreat remedy and to fully understand and skilfully apply it is our effort and aim in life, For further information call at the office or send for de- scriptive and illustrated pamphlet on Electricity and Electro Therapeutic Baths, by DR.
