The Salvation army is having a good deal of trouble in enforcing its rule that none shall leave the hall, where they are holding their meetings, except while they are singing. They think this rule reason- able, as those who leave do not then dis- turb the others, The singing part of the services comes along every few minutes, so th ny one desiring to leave does not have to wait long. Some, however, donot like to have their freedom thus circumseribed, They want to leave whenever they feel like it, and under the circumstances they especially teel like leaving ot the very time when the salva- tionists insist on their staying. The at- tempted enforcement of the rule 18 caus- ing much trouble. In order to prevent its violation, the doors haye been \ock d, except when the singing was going on. Sunday night a crow of young fcllows, on trying to leave the hall, found the door fas- tened. They proceeded to torco it open, and made thoir exit. Ycsterday war- rants were out for their arrest. Thomas Murphy, William Hummel, Charles Shoe- maker and William Brown were charged with being the offenders. The cases were brought in Justice Barnett's court, and were continued until to-morrow., The question is to be tested whother the salvationists have a right to lock their congregation Of course 1f the young men are guilty of disturbing a religious assembly, whether such assembly are those who are “‘happy on the way,” or of the less noisy worshipers, they will have to stand the penalty afiixed by law. The query scems largely whether by forcing their way out, when once locke: in, constitutes a disturbance. — The Contract Let. Mur. S. E.
