CHICAGO LIVE 810CK. CimeaGo, April 5,—~(Special Telegram to the By ~CAtTLE~The market was a pe culiar one, with such light receipts—4,200, Salesmen of course asked considerably higher prices. ‘The light receipts were ac counted for partly by the bad markets of last weck, partly by the new commerce law zoin g into cffect, and largely on account of the el tions, The general demand was good enough, but buyers seemed to think it would not do for them to take hoid very brashly or prices would get away from them. It was nullrt-zul.u shipping day and all of the vers held back, taking just as few cattle as they could. ‘There was quite a large vol- ume of business done at prices 2c hicher than last huluf though the market unm 0 o'clock to-day did not show an ping steers, | 50 to 1m bs, &4 lm||~ and s "buik, €2 lop 90; corn fed attle, Hoos—Alihough the receipts—9.000—w ° suflicient to wake a market, trade [ slow from first to last. but there varticular change in prices as yesterday, Common, light iood, 1ight light and’ Yorkers were ag mosy unsaleable, and the few sold show an ow tigure, common coing as low ight light, $4.75 and Yorkers, Swh.0, with p few fan 5.00. OMAHA WHOLESALE MARKETS Tuesday, April 5. General Produce, The following prices are for round lots of prodiice, as sold on the marker to-aay. Burter—The receipts of good butter are very light and the market is cleared. There is & good demand for choice, sweet table butter, but there is very littie coming that can be rrnae\l as such, and buyers have compelled to take the poorer grades. On ac- count of the scarcity of the choice grades poor butter has sold more readily than usual and at better vrices, Dealers, however, must not expect to receive fancy prices for common stock. Choice country, 18@20¢; fair to_good, 14@16¢; common, S@ilc, EaGs—At the present time the market may be said to be devoid of any new features, receipts continue heavy. There is a good city demand while the shippers are taking all mu surplus stock. The rrevnillng price is foo(l many deafers are anticipating ](Mel prices when the inter-state commerce Inw goes into effect. The new law will raise the rates between this point and the Pacific coast from $1.05 to $3.00. This will tend to lower the market here unless there should chance to be an_advance in the Cali- fornia markets, as shippers will require wider margins on which to ship. D PouLTrRY—The ~weather this week has been cooler and there has been a very good demand for dressed poultry, The receipts, however, have been very light and &ood prices have been obtained. chickens have been seiling readily at 1le, and fair to good at 10c, Turkeys, although not in very good demand, are selling at 10@ 11c on account of the scarcity of chickens. Local farmers are not bringing in as wany and the outlook is a little more encouraging. ‘The retail dealers are mostly stocked up for the time being, but stocks are not heavy. In some cases dealers are trying 1o get a little better prices for home grown than those quoted below. ‘The trade Is confined almost Airely to the sale of small lots from the re and it would be a difticult matter to close out car lots to a single buyer. An oe- castonal small lot brings a little more than is iuslmt‘d as & quotation. New potatoes, from he south, have put in an appearance this week, but are not moving very freely as yet.
