At once after the regular opening May was selling at 8y 78%e. The advance was caused simply be- cause Field, Lindley & Co, and Irwin, Green & Co. stood In the pit and were vrepared to buy under 75, They did not, in fact, buy much. The erowd saw their attitude and that effeeted the purpose. Cables were weak however, and the shorts, biz and little. and the bears who were not short, feit certain that while the market might be alarmed by tde of the eligy opening, betore the day wore off there might be enouch bearish news to encourage the crowd to overnde the clique and raid prices again. Wheat moved up and down uneasily all day May at times sold as low as 37c on the reg- ular board. This was when Mr. Cudaby #0ld upwards of 100,000 bushel he cliq brokers, lrwin, Green & Co. and Field, Lindley & Co., were active buyers on a large scale. Asthe day advanced wheat became Guite an active market, but there was no spe- cial features to it. For awhile the market kent in the neighborhood of 73ije, but the inevitable sales to realize began to come out and sent the price slowly to 77 Around noon there Was a recovery to isc tion over. The decline was helped along late cables, which reported ' lower with bids reduced. the o lieat moyed around quite lively betw ¢ and 7S e, closing tne morning session at the outside igire. Corn closed at 84e and pork at $15.95, A large sized yeil went up when ork first sold at $16,00. 1t was very gratify- ng to the bulls to see the market o near their $15.00 ficure. The price brought out enough offerings to set values back 2 but the close was tirm. Corn. as usi not do much in the way of fluctuating, but was a fairly active market.
