Maurice Rosenfeld & Co., and Irwin, & Co. The two former houses represent one syndicate and the two latter another. The | principals of Field, Lindiy & Co. and George | C. walker & Co. send their orders from New York and have been buyers of wheat on an | enormous scale for three months. They are millionaire Pacific coast men who reside now, the majority of them, in New York. The principals of Irwin, Green & Co. and M. Rosenteld & Co. send their orders here from Cincinnati. Their brokers in this city sre Wiltshire, Eckhart & Co. The value of the lholdings of the Cincinnati cllque _can be guessed at when it is hown that their order here 1 to buy 1,060,000 | bushels at cach cent decline, A million bushels was |hl\~ bought at Mige F \ an- other 1,000,000 at Saturday, and vesterday | an attempt was made to buy another 1,000,000 bushels at 78ige. Wiltshire, Eckhart '& are well known here. ‘They are the most active grain traders in Cincinnati. They rep- resented the svndicate which successfully ran the famous Handy wheat corner here in 185, and they also represented the syndicate which started the wheat market immediately after that “corner” was closed, and which went back on their Chicago brokers, Pres- | Meilenry & Co., causing their failure. on’s estate and ' Billy Mcllenry now have a judgiment for 45,000 obtained against tain prominent members of Wiltshire, FEckhart & Co.’s old_time syndicate, The Cincinnati elique has always been headed by a prominent iron man and a railroad builder down there named Harper. He and the crowd known in tinancial circles as the *“Fi- delity Bank clique,” are credited with furn- ishing money for the present enormous op- erations. Of course, witl these transactions on the scale they are, and with the crowd as well known as it is, their success is watched with more than ordinary interest. In pro- visions_ the wiseacres who felt very sure that Armour was running _the pork deal are now khaking their heads'in an infidel way. The talk now is that Nat Jonex and N. B. Ream have whatever deal there is on hand. It is conceded that. not only Armour, but all the other biz packers, have lent whataid they could to the advance, but itis not believed that they participated much in the specn tive advance. Jones and Keam are now sup- posed to be anxious to unload and realize. In other words, they want to unioad on som body. Itisexpected that March 1 the stocks will e okceptionally small, but this, it is claimed, has been lar anticipated, and there is no great short intcrest. The pit was sensitive. May wheat was weak azain at the close and the last sales were at 8';c. Corn was very slow and steady. All through the morning session May ranged between 381, @ 884 and closed at_the inside figure.
