A SWITCH IN SPECULATION. | The Grain Markets Open With au Upward Turn in Prices. PORK MAKES A SEVERE BREAK. The Latter Recovers Its Strength Bubsequently—Only a Slight Move- ment in Corn—~The Cattle Market Lower, CHICAGO PRODUCE MARKET. CuroaGo, Feb. 17.—|Special Telegram to the BEE.|—All of the grain markets took quite a spurt at the opening of 'change this morning, while pork suffered a severe break. The receipts of 26,000 hogs and from 10 to 15¢ lower prices for the same at the yards was the cause of the weakness in pork, while the continued wet weather and good exports of yesterday made wheat strong. After the first few minutes trading in wheat and corn eased off some, while pork became firmer. May wheat opened at 7030, sold to 70%c, but was raided down to Twa@i0ge, from which point it rallied on stiff buying to 793{ @70}c and elosed irmly at outside figures. The re- zeipts show a falling off, aggregating only 173,000 bushels at eleven poluts, while the ex- port clearings from three Atlantie ports aggregated 000 bushels, The good exvort inquiry at the seaboard was the cause of the advance at the close. The demand was good, but there were too many cattle for the wants of trade, and as 15 usual on such o fons many sale anen had to hustle to get a buyer, and when captured it was not safe to let him go if any- thing like a fair concession would make a trade. It is always up-hill business to get rid of stock when sellers have to force trad- ing. and such was the condition of the mar- ket ali day. Gerrard & tevslor, Columbus, load of hogs to-day of their own which topped the market. Mr. Thompson, of the firm of White & Thompson, was in with two loads of bogs yesterday from Tabor, la.
