Binding the Stock Ranges of the Ter ritories to Omaha With Bands of Steel. The Rock Island folks have entered Nebraska with their road and the Union Pacitic will this year build several hun- dred miles of track in Kuansas. The Northwestern and Burhington are pene- trating the great cattle ranges of Wyom- ing and Colorndo, and pushing toward Idaho and Oregon. The Cheyene & Northern, a branch of the Union Pacific has fixed its terminus at the bou line of the British possessions, which w take that road through the heart of Mon- tana. The Missouri Pacifie is building extensions all over eastern Nebraska and planing others northwest from Omaha to Yankton ana gouthern Dakots It will be noticed that every one of these lines radiate from a common center and that they cover a territory that forms one quarter of the arca of the United Stat They permeate the greatest g producing regions in America, and ¢ the st ranges from which world is supplied with food. Every one, from its northern, western or southern terminus, sends the products of the coun- try it trave to the st by way of Omaha, their common eastern terminus on the Missouri river. » The stock yurds at South Omaha were inaugurated” two years ago by men who foresuw what the west would need ~—a home market, and determed to give it to them. Their judgzment was not at fault. Their enterprise has met with success which has surprised even themselves. Even now there isa business done in South Omaha which miukes it look as important as did Omaha proper us lnto us 1880, There will be greater iner of trade and population, more building and business done there this year than there was done in 1885 and 1880, Thore will be double this amount next year and when the railroad bu #bove wontioned, and now cont for, is finished and the horses, eattle and sheep from all the western feedin, grounds from Oregon to Texas are landed at the Union Stoek rds of South Omaha a8 thoy will be, what a great market will that makey Chieago and Kansas City o what is coming and are both jeal- ous. ‘They have mnoticed the course f railrond construction and guthbred rom it the only conclusion that any one could come, 1o, viz: That Omahu is bound to be greater than they sre and g can prevent it, the stock markot wag grout Just year it was nothing to what its future, as settlod by the railroad engincers, is destined to be, and South Omaha must aly be, the head center of the stock trade, if not, in time, of the ain trad It will build out in a1l irection ards this eity and then 10 the westwurd and southward, The ndieate lands will st be led with cottages until the outskirts of the old and the young eity shall Then a revolu tion will ¢ oming popu further toward th ‘.l ries and their dwellings will be rep business bloeks, as the trade cen ward to mect the growing ne eloser relations with t! business men of South € This is no idle dream Inevitably eome to p: if the judgment of the best western wen isto be depended upon or if one is permitted to believe the practicul evidencesdaily to bo seen every side, It is no streteh of the imag ation to think thut itmay sll be seco:n ished within five or teu yesrs fror at this point essity skors und It is what must If one were permitted to view that length of time into the future, what a t would make in the cou of any. Then might be seen along the river banks in front of this city the grimy entrances to a score of slopes lea ing to the coal mines which had grown to supply the inhabitants of the Missouri vallev' “with fuel, Back of these would be the railvond yards and coal yards, the warchouses of the St. Louis barge line and, in the distance, toward the worfh, factories and foun- ' Shops of & score of gre: s, where the ears and o are manufactured from m ered from the mines and for mountains. South, a busie: ne, where ains from all the western states, for there would be no more territories, un- loaded their herds of eattle and droves of horses and sheep before a hundred vast packing houses, the smoke fromn hose furnaces hung like a pall on th its center vhat is now South Omakh This one of the most prominent men in the far west predicts for Omaha with- in a deeade, In that case, land in South Omaha would be a valuable investment if it had to be held for two or thr years, but it 1s sure to double inside of & year, when the owner can sell or hold. In this connection it may be mentioned that C. . Mayne is the exelusive agent for the South Omuha Syndicate lands, which are now platted and on sale by him on easy terms. One should go and see him on'the sut at all events for there is o great future ahead for this property and when it is too late there many who will sigh to think of might have been, Now s the time to buy and hold to build on or as a profita- ble inyestment -— Bunker Hill Has upon its summit a noble monument. For two years I have been trying to get some one of means to join me in a scheme that 1 have felt positive must succeed; that was to buy a large tract of land not too far out, easy of aceess from the city, to lay it out in different sized lots, and by building a street car line to it, and by making it beautiful by plant- ing trees and ornamental shrubbery, grading the streets, making a”park, ete to make it in fact the finest suburb in Or When Erastus A. Benson, a eap- list from Davenport, In., visited Omaha stmonth L laid the matter before him and he agreed that if a suitable tract of and could be found, to go into it. After carefully studying ‘the map in cvery di- rection I made up my mind that John D, Creighton had the only piece of land large enough, and’ after going over it carcfully "I was convinecd that a more beautiful site could not be found. A few days afterward the pur- ase was consumated and A as the owner of the finest nere lIand within a vadius of many mil Omaha, Our contract with Mr. Ben fully guarantees every promise we n and a great deal more.” Before the first day of March the ties and rails for the car tine will be distributed along the Military road and as soon as it is possible to work at it the line will be built and put in op- cration. Mr. Benson has contracted for 10,000 evergreen trees b planted carly in the spring. None to be less than 6 feet high and all guarantehd to live or be replaced. Many' thou of other shade and ornaments be planted, We know that an a ground which we scll for $100 to $300 now will make 5 lots that will brmg $200 to §500 each as soon as the strect car line is in operation. For a home Benson of- fers mducements inferior to none, and for specnlation the lots are cheaper than nine tenths of the additionshalf the distance from the business cen ter, where street car lines cannot be built.
