THE OMAHA DAILY BEE: THURSDAY, JANUARY 20, 1887 SPORTSMEN IN CONCLAVE. They Meet and Diséuss an Obnoxions Game Law. W. H. 8, Hughes was selected Yo act as shairman of the meeting of sportsmen in Penrose & Hardin's hardware store Tuesday night. The meeting had been called to take some action concerning the bill preventing spring shooting, which it1s alleged, is to be introduced at the present session of the log- islature, Mr. Penrose stated, upon request, that the meeting was an informal one, calied for the purpose of heading off the bill which he un- derstood was to be introduced for the pur- 0se of preventing the shooting of migrating irds during the spring months. Mr, Usher said he thought by all means the bill, it it was really to be introduced, ought to be 'defeated. He understood furthermore, from two or three sources, that such a measure was certainly to be brought before the le ire, “And if it is not defeated,’ it will limit us to clay pigeons and Al the year around. The same question came goin <ansas four years ago. The Stale portsman’s association took hold of the mat- ler, sent a committes to Topeka, had the bill defeated and a game ! passcd, which proved highly satisfactory Some further discussion followed, A mo tlon was made that a dminittee be appointed to find out whether such a_bill was really to bo introduced, and to report upon the iat- ter ata later meeting, The chair appointed as such committes Messrs. Bingham, Worley and Preston, and the meeting adjourned, Notice.
