T -~ CABLE COMPANY DISSENSIONS. A Meeting of Stockholders and What It Disclosed. THROWING ouTt PROXIES. A Stockholder's Story—Pugilistio Pointers—Sulliv s Charity A~ Change in Telephone Rates ~Police Matters The Cable Line. For some time past it has been gener- aliy known by those "on the inside” that tronble been brewing among the stockholders and dircctors of the car company. The members of the directory have succeeded in keeping the matter quiet, but at last it has come to the sur: face. The trouble took a decided form Thurs- day afternoon when the meeting of tolders was held for the pose of electing a board of irectors for the en- suing year. There are two factions among the stockholders—the one which is in the uscendancy, composed of C Tyler and J. B. Evans of Council Bluf R. C. Patterson, Fred Miliard, Dr. Mer L. Stone, ( Rustin J Smith Kansas and president of the ble road of that city. The othe omposed of L. B, Willi \\ uh uns, 8. R, Johnson, C Morse. The Iatter !uum. or ll‘l( n members thereof—is arged with trying to hinder and impede The construction of the road, of working for their own private inte by buying tracts of real estate along the streets that they suppose will be traversed by the cable road, and of general mismanage- ment of afiairs. 1t is not m be supposed that these charges are pref o every man in the minority against certain membe lhnlw( who are supported by the clique, The two factions had a lively dash at the meeting T it afternoon. A motion wa 1 ried ruling ot all the proxi on the techni- cal ground thy e not under seal. The Williams faction had a larger num- ber of proxies—sent by telegr . oy eastern stockholders—and had these been admitted, that clique would have been able to control the meeting. As it was, the opposing side oar ied the s Ifrod \Iillm'nl J, Morse were re jeeted, because, as one direetor expressed presented a policy which had been ¢ arried out to the great in- Jury of theinterests of the minority faction protested vigorougly against having their proxies ruled out, but will be obliged to submit as grace fully as possible under the circumstances. A STORY OF MISMANAGEMENT. ““This move of ruling out_the proxies was m.nlv on a bare technicality, I will admit,” d one of the members of the hoard to a reporter yesterday, but it was legal and it had to be done. Why? Be- use if we hadn’t got the control of the lout of the hands of this faction, it would be only a matter of time before it was completely wrecked. One of the men whom we downed has been u\mk to manipulate the stock of the comp to further his own pecuniary interests Hm lllt'”lud\ 1ye been as follows: He would ent men holding stock in the I}' and represent to them that the the concern were in a discour- ’u‘:lngsmlv—l!mln metions were piling —that inferminable and costly lawsuits were in prospect—and that aliogether it would be safer to sell the stock at a fair price thanto hold it. In this way he would secure the stock and sell it at'a big advance to eastern capitalists, pocketing the difference himself. I believe that all the delays which were enforeed upon the t year by the action of the 76 was brought abont simply to enhance the mterests envich the pocke stock-jugglers. The road ought th have been completed six nonths ago. VOTING FAT SALARIES, “Anctier ground of complunt ag the faction is the way in which managed the business and mone of the comy A committee, con- sisting of Messrs. Rustin, Stone and Pat- terson, wa pointed to investigate the books of the company. The affairs were found to ve in a highly unsati condition new and myst tem of book iing, most diflienlt to un- vel, had been adopted, and the com- ible to make neither head Lhe vouchers were car y recorded, and this made still worse. And worst of all it found that Messes. Johnson and Willy respectively, president and vice pr atof the company, had voted them selves fat salaries without the consent or knowledge of the directors This during the time that the company was under heavy expense m other direc- tions — paying out all the time, but taking nothing in. “Now that we have rid nllr:l'l\m of the objcctionable element,’ id the speaker, ‘we propose to go right ahead with the construction of the road as soon as the weather will permit. The men who are now on the board are all men of mean: d able to earry out their good | intentions. We don’t propose to have any more dilly-dallying. No, it is not yet decided whether or not the road will Zo up Farnam street, W. V.
