B. Waite, who will doubtless prove onc of the most valuable members, took his seat, as did also S, B. Frum, who has been a member before, and now is returncd after an absence of one year. Heis welcomed back gladly. The board had some little difficulty in ing, so far as the selection of a s concerned, The difficulty ¢, not from the usual ambi- tion shown by politicians, but from the modesty of the four members present, each voling for his next door neighbor, and thus there being no majority for any one of the four. After several unsatis factory ballots the matter was happily disposed of by the .1.. ion of Mr. Frum Mr. Boyler, the absent member, was expected to a L last night, and be present to ium in the proceedings to-day. The bonds of the new recorder, W, Thomas, were approved, and that gentle man entered upon his _duties, being gracefully welcomed by Mr (humlu-rq, who turned over the oflice, and kindly offered to give any needed 'information and assistince to the immcomer. Tue bonds of the new county attorney, Colonel Daily, were also approved, and that gentleniin _entered upon his dutics. Colonel Daily, as attorney forgkdwards, has filed a motion for a new trial and ar- rest of judgment, The motion 1s based on the claun that several errors crept into the trial in the judge's admission of evidence and in the instruc 5 ular stress is laid upon the faet that the burglars’ tools and revoly found upon Edwards when urrested were shown to the jury, when these articles had noth- ing to do with the contidence game for which he was being tried. It is aiso elaimed that the evidence as to w hat the vietim of the game had to sa with the unknown and still at I ner of Edwar mtted. The claim is also made that the checks found ou Edwards' person should not have been used at the trial. Iv is generally thought that Edwards is too Valuable s member of the gang to be al- owed to be sent to the penitentiary with- out a strong struggle to get him free on somo technicality, and that a strong legal fight will be made.
