An old case, a veteran, eame up before Judge Loofbourow yesterday. It is fa- miliarly known as the Jones murder case. The affuir occured in 1878, and has been hanging in the courts ever since. I'he victim was Daniel Robert, and he was a neighbor of Jones in Hazel Dell township, It is claimed that Jones shot Robert, and on this he was tried and sen- tenced years. After being taken to the penitent iary he was released, a new trial having been secured. A change of venue was taken to I the next t rrison county, and Jones on AT was found” guilty of man nd sent to the penitentiary for He did not serve this sen- oy having gained » case has been hang- n-" and he has been e been tried at lul by his attorney, a showing was made . new trial ing along ¢ out on bail, It this term of court, Colonel C. The chiet ground o the continuance this time is the illness of the defendant’s aged mother, and her inability to appear as a witness. The .nmm made by Jones to the charge ing killed Roberts, is in the first pla u'e that he never killed him, but that if 1e he was justified in killing hi seems to coyer about every po: and Jones has thus far succeeded in con- vincing the upper courts that he should not be convicted. —_—— Millinery Goods at cost for mext 30 days, Mrs. W.
