ANOTHER CANNING FACTORY | cond Enterprise of This Oharacter Now an Assured Fact. MAND FOR MORE LIGHT | Ward a Certain Percentave—state House News—Court Doings Cay State Happenings. IFROM THE BEE'S LINCOLY RUREAT.Y Since the publication of the aruele in the Bk regarding the coming of the big canning institution in West Lineoln it develops that the Stock Yards company nlso are making extensiva preparations to recoive und entortain o like proposi- tion from a big canning company, who are now located at Erio, Penn., are doing one of the greatest businesses i this country, and if they estublish a b ch at Lincoln, as a prominent citizen con- fidentily predicts thoy will do, it will result that the coming year will see two institations of the kind setin operation at West Lincoln, the two ot which will open up market gardening at the capital city on a4 most extensive scale. Further ingquiry into the location of the eannery establishment on the farm of Charles Herdman shows that the plant will be the most complete and extensive in the e, aad that the buildings to be erected be of the most permunent charaoter, i s will insure the stability of the institution at the start, A QUESTION OF LIGHT at present and has for some time been agitating the minds of the public fathers of Lincoln, the present system of electrie lights proving wholly inadequate to sup- the necessities in the ease. Under the rried out the present year only business part of the city and its imme- diate surroundings have benefitted by the system of electric lights, and all the outlying portions huve been left in rkness, To this system there has arisen a vigorous protest from the citi- zens left outin the cold in the matter of street lights, and their petitions have gone up to the powers in gre numbers, asking an equal distribution among all tax rs of the light furnished by meht. One of the citizens living beyond the furthermost r ?‘n of the final O streetlight to the eastward, remarked recently thit an orgunization was talked of in their lo- cality that would, when gathered to- pother, select un orator, whose duty it woud be o ' commit to memory Patrick Henry's great speech and vecite it to the eity fathers as an evidence of th olution that might be expected if the taxpayers in the more remote districts of thé city were not en the attention they decm they de- At the last mceting of the city ithers the qnestion of light was up and was the subject of a long and almost imonious debate, in which & proposi- tion from the electrie light company, ot- fering to furnish lights to the citv at $10 ach per month, was the basis for a_dis cussion. A portion of the council huve nced a desire to retuin to gas and as lamps, bolieving that in that way more satisfactory distribution of benefits could be made, but the vote in the coun- cil fully determined the fact that n ma of the body were in fayor of re ng the present system. The yote as left it for each ward to have its regular percentage of lights, and if the contract as presented is signed, the old way will be maintained with additions for the coming year. AT THE STATE HOUSE. Yesterdny the board of educational lands and buildings beld their regular monthly session, and transacted the routine business accumulated during the past thirty days.
