Lloyd, better known as “Comanehe Bill," was yesterday brought before Judge Aylesworth on the charge of swindling. As told in yesterday's BEE e succeeded in turning a confidence trick at the transfer, the victim being an old man named Hickman Rodman, who lives near Kansas City, and who was on his way home after spending seven months in Buffalo Gap, Dak. Lloyd represented that he had been out that way, and soon sncceeded in inducing the old gentleman to lend him $20 to pay some freight charges, until he could h a check which he showed in corrob- oration of his story. Lloyd secured Colonel Dailey to defend him, and had his case contimued until to-morrow after- noon. The old gentleman did not have a cent left with which to pay his board, while waiting for the ¢ to be heard, and Bill generously put up money enough to keep the old man at a cheap hotel for two days, paying him probably out of Lloyd a case of mi: outly claimed that aken identity, and s n8 innocent asa lamb. No. 27 Main street. . —— Finding of Kost's Remains, The remaius of John Kost were last evening brought ba from Platte City, and the fueral will ve held this _after- noon at 2 o’clock at the residence of Wil | tiam Steinkopt, corner of M Washiagton avenue Coroner Faul, who with relatives went after the remains, learned some of the de- tails of Mr. Kost's actions there, which supported the theory already advanced that he was mentally deranged and thus wandered off. It was learned that he ar- rived at Beverly one day last August | when there wasa funeral party, was going from Kansas City to ( He acted strangely, Platte and thought he was the undertaker with undertaker the part he gave various orders as to the handling of the body, and some really took him to be the director of arrangements. As the party st uu( off he watched them, and then % to the station agent re- od: “See all those niggers going y there laughing. It's a burning shame and disgrace.”” 1t was evident from this and other remarks that he insane. He went into the depot and there drank cupful after cupful of icewater, <o much so that some of the railway men rey ed about it and feared he would be sick. While they were attending to car in the yards he” went away up the track. They talked over his ‘case and concluded to return to the depot, search him, and find out where he belonged, so as 1o notify his friends, he evidently being insane. On their return he gone. 'The section men saw him walk along the track, and so far as known that was the last scen of him alive. He apparently wandered off to the place where his remains were found, strip covered with high weeds, and by | theen a growth of timber and a corn ficld. About two wecks ago a man hunt- ing chanced to cross through this strip, and discovered hanging on a tree in the edge of the timber the coat worn by the deceased. He thought it was a cont left by some hunter, who had gone oft and forgotten it. The other day the body w fuuml about a hundred feet from where the coat was, it being hidden in the tall weeds. There were present a full board, the mayor, Aldermen Shugart, Straub, Ben- nett, Keller, Hammer and Danforth. There were a goodly number of citi- zens present, but not as many as have at- tended the meetings sinee the new bridge and depot projects have been before the council. The minutes of the previous session were read and approved. "The report of the oflicial count of the vote cust at the recent special election on the taxation of the 12 mills was read and approved. A very lengthy opinion in writing was presented by the eity solicitor in regard to the complaint of & plumber of this city that the water works company had_en- tered into an arrangement with the New York Plumbing company by which the ve u monopoly of tabbing the ains, the New York Plumbing claiming th clusive right to ice pipe.
