There were only eight burial permits jasued during October. Council Blufly is 80 healthy as to be discouraging to underta and doctors. This small number includes those who were brought here for burial, and who died el where. There was a lively row on Pierce stroet again Sunday night. His escape was a narrow one, and the blow which he dealt Robinson was by no means a light oue. The Salvation army is not drawing as large audiences here'ns in most pla nor creating so much of a stir. The cau is apparently because there is 8o little opposition to their work. So long as they go along trying to souls and do good, although their ways are a little thiar, the Council Blufls folks seem inclined to let thom work awny, and pay little attention to them. It is evident that the manager, Rev. Mr. Lemen, has got this institution into about the same sort of a row as he did the Ba ust church when he was pastor of that. He seems to be strangely unfortunate in his management of enterprises. The BEE, in order to be fair, vublishes both statements, it having published one be- fore. It is a little singular that thosc who are reported to have been under per- sonal obligations to the manager, or who have claims against the institution, seem to stick by the manager, while those who are conside! foot loose and hand free hasten to disconnect themselves from an institution which has gained such an un- vory name, angl the manager of which ad iiis name dropped from the hst of [ ed ministers of the Baptist St ion as the effect of the recent res- ]nlmu To the Publie: : We, as members of the board of trustees of the Home of the Friend- less_associatton of Council Bluffs, fowa, deeming the duty imperative, submit the fol- lowing brief statement: Vhiet Abundant _evidence has been made public showing Mr. J. Many good things can be said of him, but he can hardly stund up under the burden of praise which the organ bestows upon him. It will be remembered by many veters that when he was an alderman he helped pass a resolution allowing the alderman §25 a mounth for services on committees, aud making a back-pay grab of it, the back pay amounting to $100 each. There was such a howl raised that the resolution was rescinded, and Judge James voted with the others for rescinding 1. - He bad in the mean- time drawn his $100, he being the onfy one who had done so, with the exception of Jesse McMabon, and the latter had not eashed his order, but hurriedly re- tarned it.
