Palmer’s, - Seal brand oysters at H. Under False Pretenses. On the 18th of last month a business like young man introduced himself at Metealf Bros.’ store as R. Eschelman, of Harlan. He wanted to purchase some Zoods for his store, and made selections amounting to about fifty dollars. He gave dircctions as to shipping them, and in the meantime picked outa cheap over- cont, and concluded to take that with him, the other goods to be shipped to Harlan. The commereial ageneies show- ing Mr. Eschelman to bo perfectly ro- sponsible, the goods were shipped as directed. In the conrse of mail a letter was received from Mr. Eschelman saying that he had ordered no goods, and that whoever did so borrowed his name, and had been playing a confidence trick. Metealf Bros. were only out a cheap overcoat, but they set themselves at work to find the offender. They learned that he was a son of Mr. Eschelman, his name being B, B. Eschelman. The overcoat which he had thus procured he had im- mediately pawned at an upper Broadway place, and getting three dollars on it had skipped for Omaha, where he had spexi it for a spree, The next learncd of the young man he returned 1o inis city, to see about a vali*5 which he had left at fax Molin's hotel. He has watched the facts, so far as developed, ed that three men started from Sioux City down the river and that only two arrived at Omaha, The third one, he thinks, was Peters, and that he was put out of the way. The place where the body was found can easily be reached buried in of by a boat from the river, and, the willows, there was little chance discovery. He is awaiting impat something trom Sioux City, he h sent there the deseription of the boc clothing. He has other points which to his mind confirm the theory. Oneis that, although the papers have s nsual pub: lished accounts of the findinfi of the body, there have been no inguiries on the ps art of relatives. Generally he receives some inquiry at once, and in almost every case the remains are identitied. He made extended inquiry and can find no trace of any other man in that t of the coun- try being mnssed.
